If you are a new arrival to this thread and have found that it is locked but still want to show your support for Affinity on Linux, simply like this post

ptodd got a reaction from Dan C in Affinity Photo crashes when I try to open HEIC file
I just tried with https://github.com/tigranbs/test-heic-images/blob/master/image1.heic on the same version of AP and macOS, and it works here.

I have a similar issue. Round trip working between Windows and iPad via Dropbox is a lot of work.
Here's what I seem to need to do.
Create file in Dropbox. 'Open from Cloud' on iPad. Make edits. Save file. Close file (need to do this or you'll never get updates from Dropbox). Edit on desktop. Save on desktop. 'Open from Cloud' on iPad again. etc. The problem is I have to 'Open from Cloud' every single time I want to receive updates from Dropbox. When opening a file that originally came from Dropbox, Designer makes no attempt to retrieve the updated version. If you don't realise this or forget to do the dance, you end up with a conflicted copy.
It's also pretty confusing that you have to explicitly close a file from the Designer home screen when just navigating back to that home screen "closes" the file (in my brain).

@Mark Ingram is there any chance of giving us an update on your list of things to look at, with a rough indication on where this DDS feature sits now? Also, as a lot of game developers are just that (developers) is there any way to help implement this?

ptodd reacted to Mousyfox in Focus Merging Sources Panel
when working on a large file, as the one in the Workbook, Mother of Millions, I had to save the image down and carry on working the day after. When I came back to my image the Source Panel was empty. I'd lost all the images. I couldn't find any way to load them back in without importing every one of the 41 initial photos and clicking the Add Global Source button to bring each one back to the list. This is very time consuming and seems a little stupid really. I could find nothing in the documentation for repopulating the source panel. I tried saving history with document but that didn't help either. Is this an oversight or have I missed something? If it's not my error perhaps something needs adding to accommodate this facility?

There is much more to the Mac OS than a special kernel & "a GUI pasted on top of UNIX." It was based on the XNU (which stands for "X is Not Unix") hybrid kernel, which combines modified features of preexisting BSD & FreeBSD microkernel & monolithic kernel architectures & a unique driver model called I/O Kit. Apple has in recent years abstracted the OS further into various "Core" services & added hierarchical permission structures in which not even root has direct access to everything once the full OS is running.

Recent Mac OS versions are Single UNIX Specification (SUS) UNIX 03 certified when running on Intel-based Mac computers, but that just means they include a subset of interfaces, commands, utilities, & services that comply with the SUS UNIX 03 standard. Darwin is the open source subset of the OS, & may or may not meet that standard depending on how it is set up. Darwin by itself can not run Mac OS apps because it lacks most of the high level API's & GUI characteristic of the full OS.

To that extent the Mac OS is "UNIX-like" but it is probably more accurate to think of it as a superset of UNIX that includes a boatload of proprietary closed source features.

Serif have offered discounts of 20% or more to mark the launch of a new point release (e.g. version 1.5 or 1.6) or to celebrate winning an award, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that they’ll do the same again. At that price we’re talking about $80 to purchase a pair of licences for one app, which is only 60% more than the regular $50 price tag for a single licence.

Used the Inpainting and Clone Tools to remove the white cat, but I couldn't resist adding another.
