    Hello

I would like other noise patterns available. Especially some with less fine grain. You don't have to invent them - film grain emulation would be fine. Some are perhaps open source.

Michelle_5 reacted to Naturbild in Alternative to Lightroom
I'm a professional photographer and have been using Lightroom for years to manage and edit tens of thousands of photos. When discussing alternatives to LR, I keep coming across the suggestion that there is a difference between DAMs and RAW processors, and that there are many alternatives to Lightroom. I've been looking for alternatives to Lightroom for about a year. I tested them all: commercial, opensource, separate DAMs and combined with RAW processors. So far I have not found anything that is equivalent to LR for me. Capture One is close, but the GUI is too cluttered and the font and icons are too small. It's trivial, but with a software I work several hours every day, that matters. Luminar 2018 is interesting, let's see how the DAM functionality is integrated. With Lightroom, many things are ideal, I just lack some speed and AI-based automatic tagging. A separation into two programs, DAM and RAW processor, is not an option for me as a photographer at all. I like to use Affinity Photo as an alternative to Photoshop, but it has nothing to do with Lightroom. If I want to edit 1000 photos after a shoot, it has nothing to do with Photoshop or Affinity Photo. I want to quickly provide hundreds of photos with the same look or denoise and perform visual corrections. Creating a new file for each photo in Photoshop or Affinity Photo and then editing that image takes far too long and multiplies the local storage footprint. What I want is the RAW persona from Affinity Photo in a new app combined with DAM functionality: with automatic AI-based tagging and GPS tags. Just in case someone from Affinity reads this...

Is there a way to export from Affinity Designer always in the same folder as the source AFD file? Cause I can't find it and working on UI design makes it a headache cause I always have to switch folders on export.
I know it's a feature request already for Affinity Photo but I'm not sure if this will be added to AD as well.

    Any thoughts?

Hello. I have Afinitty Photo 1.6.1.93 and Afinity Designer 1.6.1.93
Both take 15-20 seconds to start.
Earlier versions had a quick start. Why did you slow down the programs? Can you make them fast as they were in previous versions?

Michelle_5 reacted to ChristAlix in Affinity Designer Suggestion - Simplify the handling and modification of Assets, Symbols and Groups
    Hi guys,

At the moment I'm fighting with the theme of assets, symbols and grouping in the Affinity Designer.
Compared to the illustrator, Affinity has revolutionized the handling of symbols and I am "relatively" satisfied with the available tools, but there is still room for improvement!

I've been looking for the same ideas for a long time. There are many suggestions with different content and it is very difficult to follow them, so I do not know whether there have been similar proposals or not.
    So, let's go!

With the identical objects I was able to help myself with assets and symbols, but when it comes to working on other forms in a group simultaneously, it's over with fun.
Replacing symbols or objects with inheritance of their original size and position is not possible in Affinity Designer or I haven't found a function for it yet.
I have found a good example of how such a thing can or has been realized in Microsoft Powerpoint (2013). It is not a real illustration program but the simple way to modify objects is unsurpassed!

Please have a look at the examples here and I am curious about your review.
Is this a "Nice to Have" feature for you or a feature that allows you to work quickly, effectively and flexibly?
Or is such a feature already in your portfolio?

Here you will find some visual examples without the generation of symbols "cloning" like in AD:

Objects can be modified individually or together in a group.

Different objects can be modified together

Objects can be replaced together or independently. The size, position and rotation of the original object is taken over.

Just a very simple drawing like the pentaptych or tryptichon is a challenge in AD
An example of how PowerPoint works.
Try to do this in AD with symbols at the same time and then replace them afterwards.

In addition, AD (such as Adobe Illustrator CC and Incscape. With the exception of the CAD programs, because it would be fatal) a strange feature to deform the symbol duplicates (which are changed in their aspect ratio) during rotation.

It is also not possible to edit the symbols in the "quasi" mask group, since this group is converted to a solid layer.

Michelle_5 reacted to Ocean Quigley in Working with channels
    Hello,

I'm a game artist, and the main thing preventing me from switching from Photoshop to Affinity is that we use channels (R, G, B, A) differently than you probably expect. We basically need direct access to every channel (including alpha) as an individual editable, grey-scale image. Each channel holds distinct texture data that we feed to shaders.
For example, I often need to tweak the levels on just the alpha channel, or invert just the R channel.
This is doable in Affinity, but it is very cumbersome. In particular, the way that Alpha is always displayed as layer opacity makes it almost impossible to treat the alpha channel independently from R, G & B. Alpha often holds data that has nothing to do with layer transparency.

To enable game artists to use Affinity, we need access to all of the channels and the ability individual manipulate them.

    Thanks!
    Ocean

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Michelle.

This problem has been discussed in quite a few previous threads. The best we can do at the moment is to select an existing brush stroke with the desired style and set that as the default for new brush strokes (or copy the selected stroke and ‘Paste Style’ to another existing stroke).

Michelle_5 reacted to MEB in Moving layers is difficult
    Hi Michelle_5,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
There's already a blue line that appears when you drag layers in the Layers panel. It gives you a hint on where the layer you are dragging will be placed. Note that horizontal mouse/drag movements also change the location where the layer is placed. A full width hint line places the layer at the root level in the layers panel. a Smaller hint line may drop the layer as a sliding or as a child of another layer depending on how much you move/drag the mouse to the right. Check this video tutorial for more details: Affinity Designer - Layers Panel Drop Zones. Let me know if you still have issues placing the layers where you need.

Thanks for your reply. You guys are so good at responding here.
So these 200 vector brushes aren't strictly vector at all, not even in Affinity Designer.
I was already sure that the textured brushes weren't vector, but it's disappointing to find these new brushes aren't either.
Anything lined up to add true vector brushes a la Adobe Illustrator to the road map of new features?
    Bob.
