Designer is great. But sadly Photo I feel has an incoherent UI and UX.
This isn't saying Photo lacks features, or things aren't possible with Photo.
This is saying that the metaphor or philosophy that arranges the many functions in Photo isn't well thought through - sorry to say this, I now loads of work has gone into it.
    Some things to think about:
Findability - make it easy to find things by grouping them logically, context aware presentation of options is also helpful. Currently unrelated stuff is together, and related stuff is far apart in different menu trees. Consistency - see last point about similar things together. But also the UX is inconsistent. Why should I find the drop down menu to rename a pallet when in other places it is a right click because I'm editing a property of a thing. Another example is some tools/filters are non-destructive whilst others are not. Really disorienting and gives a sense of deep unease and poor confidence. Please don't try to mimic Photoshop - that thing is decades old and there no good reason for emulating it. Beat it by making an app that is intuitive and powerful for newcomers. Your measure of success is how little a manual or online tutorial is needed.
I am not a fan of those personas... yet another layer of context shift, when there should be just one layer of context switching maximum. Context depending on context is not good.
I've previously mentioned Lightzone (not Lightroom) as a simple but powerful app precisely because it allows the user to do powerful editing, in an intuitive way, totally non-destructively, and the effects you can achieve with it would require many many steps in other apps. Lessons can be learned.

Every Animation Studio use Python in their Pipeline. JavaScript is not standard in animation pipeline.
GIMP has Python Fu, which opens a door to do more complex stuff, plus python has huge number of libraries.
I hope Affinity will give support for Python API. Thank you

I especially like the configuration options present in Brother's Qtouch Label Maker Software.
It has options for RGB-Filtering, Gamma-Correction and allows choosing between Raster, Error-Distribution, Corner and Binary for the conversion to black and white.

    Good evening and merry christmas!

I have just purchased Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, the latter during the End Of Year Sale and I am very statisfied, moving over from Adobe software that I have given up on, due to their new subscription-only business model that I was not happy with.
This request is primarily releated to Affinity Photo, but it would surely make a nice addition to Affinity Design too.
Having to use monochrome images for certain processes that can only print monochrome, I like dithering a lot. I was pleased to see that Affinity Photo comes with a monochrome dithering filter.
However, I am a bit disappointed that there is no configuration options for said filter, such as changing the type of dithering and adjusting other parameters associated with monochrome dithering.
I would be very pleased if a few more settings could be added with a future release.

    Best regards,
    Benedikt

Free alternative is not a solution but a placebo or excuse. I don't know why is so difficult when also Serif DrawPlus, Inkscape or other very simple programs have it.
Btw this should be a post to let Affinity know how much they are in favor of introduction of this function, not to justify their lack. This kind of comments make you lose interest

Saijin_Naib reacted to shojtsy in Add icon to indicate presence of blend options
When you add layer effects to layer they are indicated in the layer panel with an "fx" icon next to the layer. However if you modify the blend ranges for a layer they are not indicated in any way, and the presence of the blend range setting is only visible if you know to open the blend options cog icon. With many layers this can become confusing. Please add a cog icon next to the layer in a similar fashion as the fx icon when the blend range options are not on the default setting to indicate their presence.

Thought I'd give you a glimpse of some of the features that will be coming in 1.7.

Please note - this thread is only for discussing the features detailed here.  Postings related to other feature requests should be posted on their own thread (else they will get deleted from this thread).

We have spent considerable time overhauling the internals of some of our main tools.  It's been a labour of love, but it's going to open up greater possibilities for our core tool set.

    The core tools are:
    - Move tool
    - Pen tool
    - Node tool
    - Shape creation tools
    - Text tools
    - Fill and Transparency tools
    - Place Image tool
    - Vector Crop tool

So, what improvements can be expected?

    - Advanced grid editing on spread (move the grid origin and edit it's axis with a handy new widget, with full snapping of course)
    - Guides can be created and moved in all the core tools, plus a toggle to turn guide editing off
    - Move the artboard ruler origin (with editing toggle)
    - Create objects and shapes into an arbitrary grid
    - Rotate and flip objects in grid planes (great for people working in isometric), plus an option to rotate shapes in plane using the Move tool
    - The Move tool will now allow you to cycle though selection boxes, including regular boxes and grid plane aligned boxes
    - Snapping performance improvements

Saijin_Naib reacted to jcburns in Could you add HSV/HSB to color picker?
Although the range of picker types you have is quite wonderful, I'm used to working with HSB/V (Brightness or Value) instead of HSL (for lightness.) It's a common way of specifying colors especially in the land of video. HSL is a similar user experience, but there are a lot of times where it just makes sense to think of 100% brightness (which, to get the same RGB value, somehow works out to 50% lightness.)

(And as you probably know, Adobe Photoshop's picker has HSB, not HSL.)

This website does a great job of dynamically showing the difference:

Would you consider adding this option to Designer/Photo/Photo for iPad? Thanks.

Yes, HSL like it is now is too clumsy. Accurate colour targeting is a must.
Also it is possible to better PS; add a similar selection stripe which targets luminosity. That way you could edit for example dark shades of a colour and leave the light end unaffected.
