  1. I did both the terminal command and relaunched the Finder. Still won't show anything else but the Photo icon for .afphoto files, nor does preview (with the spacebar) work either.
  2. I don't see any previews even after having done the terminal command - only see the Affinity Photo icon. What could be wrong?
  3. No, it's a very simple file with just 3 layers, no groups... 146 Mb .aphoto file (and I've got 8Gb in my iMac)
  4. Tested this, and deleted all cached info with Ctrl+option key... seems faster, but cannot be totally sure. What other speed-up tips are there?
  5. I remember now that I 'cured' a similar performance issue around 2 months ago. Will try tomorrow and report back. FYI, it's not document-specific, and it did not happen with the same doc earlier... could be two releases back.
  6. Latest release is noticeably slower than the previous one, especially in redisplaying changes... You can see it displaying rectangle after rectangle with the change in question applied. It's not lagging drawing or moving a brush or something like that, just the display of changed content, regardless of size of file or other external factors. Latest Apple updates are all installed to my iMac 2011 vintage, 8Gb memory. Known issue?
  7. ...and I've been looking for this for ages! Thank you!!!
  8. Hey guys, I was testing this and it seemed to work quite well. However, opening the mask again (Refine mask) and messing around a little bit with the values suddenly caused the spinning ball and about a minute later AP crashed. Anyone seen anything like this before? I haven't had it crash on me for months... :(
  9. Billtils, a good summary.... and as I said, for the time being I will stay with Aperture** as my photo manager. My use referenced photos with a reasonable sensible (date-based) folder structure, so I feel it shouldn't be too difficult to move to another option, but which one? Regarding point 4) I am waiting for them.... :) ** and yes, I have several backups...
  10. As an Aperture refugee I can sympathise... but clearly AP does match and supersede Aperture's capabilities with regards to editing. The UI is (wildly) different though... What I am looking for is something to replace Aperture's management capabilities as well, not immediately, but medium term. Any suggestions? LR (which I don't like, not only for the subscription policy)?
  11. Like some other guys I use AP from Aperture and it works pretty well. My only gripes are with masks (can't see what I've done, unclear how to create and use... not sure what is best practice in this regard with AP... anyone?), and the lack of a decent printing dialogue.
  12. This is fine for adjustments... but how about filters? For instance I'd like to sharpen something and then change my mind? This may be the case for making all filters into layers as well.... :)
  13. +1 for Aperture-styled workflow and non-destructive raw editing. My ideal would be Aperture as a photo manager and APh as editor...
  14. As a member of 500px I got an offer for Perfect Effects, free... Playing around wih it I noticed that it implements all its filters as layers. Very nice, indeed. Recommend implementation as filters... whether I would use them in the beginning or end of the workflow, it probably depends... my intuition is at the beginning.
  15. Likewise, does not display Aperture library; others OK. Using latest OS X 10.10.2, iMac 27", mid 2010 model with 8Gb.
  16. Hi Andy, Sorry to corroborate the reports about help problems... searching sometimes does hang here as well.
  17. Hi, jfg... this is not the behaviour I see. Aperture will create the TIFF file, send it to AP; I do my editing, and hit CMD+S; AP will ask about flattening, which I OK and I then CMD+Q out of AP and will be back in Aperture. The next time I edit the same TIFF file (that version in the stack in Aperture) it won't create a new version, otherwise works the same. However, if I don't save the file in AP but try to quit with CMD+Q or the menu, AP will ask for Save As... So maybe the solution is to Save first in AP and then quit out of it. This works fine.
  18. I just checked the same, and it works fine - the edited image will be added to (possibly new) the stack. Maybe add automatic stacking to Aperture will do the trick? Also, I used 16-bit tiff file as the bridge between the two, no idea which is best... anyone can advise?
  19. Hmmm.... FIXED?... I read in another post that by holding CTRL and ALT and restarting you can reset/clear a lot of stuff, caches etc.... I did, and it started behaving OK! In other words, problems SOLVED?? Cheers, Sam
  20. Interesting... I did as you suggested: - removed the beta - created a new admin user - reinstalled it And the new user had no such problems! However, the old one still does! Especially when a selection is active and you want to create a mask... totally unusable, with horrendous cursor lag etc etc... Tried to check with the Activity Monitor if any other processes were interfering, but could not discern anything unusual. What could be wrong when a clean user works but an old one not?
  21. I have a 27" iMac, no external screen, latest OS X 10.10.2, no enhancements and... nothing special to the right (Captur for screen captures, Dropbox...) Nothing extraordinary..., AFAIK. I will try the new admin user in a moment and report back. Cheers, Sam
  22. Just installed Beta2... performance is terrible, lag, etc.... iMac mid2010, 8Gb, 2.8Ghz... how should the preferences be set for best performance? Or is anything else to be done. Was better with the earlier beta, but not good.
