  1. +1. I've also recently had the need for Grey Gamma 1.8
  2. My lady makes sewing patterns with Illustrator, and we'd like to bring her into the AD fold, but have run into a stumbling block. Here's what we're trying to do: Create multiple A4 size artboards and align them edge to edge both horizontally and vertically (ie. we create a sort of grid out of adjacent artboards). We then draw the full sewing pattern across the artboards, and export each artboard as a PDF for clients to print out at home and tape together to produce the full-size clothing pattern. In order to make this work, however, we need to be able to draw lines that will print on every artboard that the line goes over. So for example, a line from the top left artboard that continues onto the artboard just to the right should show up on both pages in the final PDFs. I haven't been able to find a way to do this in Designer. If we put the line on artboard 1, it won't print on artboard 2, and if we put the line on no artboard, it displays on screen properly, but doesn't show up in the PDF. Is there something I'm overlooking? Is there a way to print a single object over multiple artboards?
  3. Just came across an interesting article on curvature continuity: it's a subtle, but very elegant, version of rounded corners. I think this would be a terrific addition tio AD's feature set (AI requires a $50 plugin to do the same), and I'd love to see this implemented into Designer, perhaps as options on the Curve and Rounded Rectangle tools. Cheers. The article: https://hackernoon.com/apples-icons-have-that-shape-for-a-very-good-reason-720d4e7c8a14#.eckdl9bhg The AI plugin: http://www.pixeology.com/Spiro/features.html

    Curvature continuity

Absolutely. It's subtle, but very classy. Could make AD stand out from the crowd!
  5. Thanks, Callum, and apologies for my perceived impatience. I added a thread to Feature Requests this morning.
  6. I'd like the ability to draw an object over several artboards in AD, and when I export the doc to PDF have the object show up on all the pages that it touches. I haven't been able to find a way to do this in Designer. If I put a line on artboard 1, it won't print (ie. export to PDF) on artboard 2, and if I put the line on no artboard, it displays on screen properly, but doesn't show up in the PDF. The goal for me is to be able to produce sewing patterns which I can then sell online. For more info, see this thread. Thanks!
  7. I take it the answer is "no". Guess I'll head over to Feature Requests, then.

    Designer no redo

Oh hey, look at that! I wasn't aware of the spacebar feature. That should work just beautifully! Thanks, Patrick.

    Designer no redo

I'm getting wonky reactions to Command-Shift-Z for redoing an undone action. Sometimes it works, but mostly it doesn't – I just get an error beep. I'll keep my eyes peeled for clues as to what might be influecing this behavior, but for now, has anyone else experienced this?

    Designer no redo

Alfred is right. I just want to see the original change that I made, not make a different one. Photoshop for example offers this option front and center by making cmd-Z toggle between undo and redo so that one can compare the latest change to what came before. I'd like to be able to do that in Affinity. A simple preference to disable undoable/redoable selections would solve this issue. Is that not possible?

Any word on this? Surely I'm not the only one that finds this frustrating.

    Designer no redo

I can absolutely see how many might want to redo a very complex selection, but I don't use Designer with terribly complex graphics, and so undoable selection/deselection is quite annoying. Here is what I'm faced with: Make a change to my graphic Oops, I don't like that change. Undo it. Click outside the selection to deselect and hide the bounding boxes and handles so that I can properly view my graphic. Hmm, I think I want to see that change again. Drat, I can't redo it now. Make the original change again manually. This is a totally natural way of working for me on my Mac, and undoable select/deselect gets right in the way. If every other app in the world behaved similarly, this would be no big deal, but Affinity is the odd one out. I can understand why this feature is there, but not all of us are producing complex artwork. Some of us are just working on a logo, for example, and have no need to redo a selection. Affinity, please consider making a preference to disable undoable and redoable selections/deselections.

The problem is with the REDO. See my July 1 post above for details. This behavior is non-standard app behavior for me. I don't need to undo or redo a select/deselect, and whatever benefits it may bring seem minor compared to the inconvenience of not being able to redo a good chunk of my actions.

    Designer no redo

In other words, would it be possible to add a preference to make select/deselect NOT undoable/redoable?
  15. greyscale

    Designer no redo

I see. I personaly don't need udoable select and deselect, especially if it means that I lose the ability to undo other actions as a result. Could this perhaps be added as a preference?

Is there any word on this?

    Designer no redo

Using the Node tool, I move a node in an object, and then undo the action with cmd-Z. With the node still selected, I hit cmd-shift-Z and the action is redone. However, If after undoing the action I then click outside the object (deselecting everything), then cmd-shift-Z will not redo the action.

    Designer no redo

It appears to have to do with editing text. If I make changes to some text, then undo those changes, I'm not able to redo them via Option-Shift-Z.

    Designer no redo

Yeah, that's what *should* happen, but it's happening when there *are* actions to redo. I am completely accustomed to using the keyboard to undo and redo in many apps, but Designer is not behaving the way I expect it to. Like I said, it's not every time, so I'll see what further info I can gather.

    Designer won't open

Hans, yes, I've been getting toolbar mayhem and sticky splash screens. I searched for this topic before posting, but for some reason didn't think of the word "hang'. Thanks for pointing us toward that thread.

    Designer won't open

After upgrading to 1.4, Designer now won't seem to fully start up. I've tried dragging a doc to the app icon as well as creating a new doc from scratch, but to no avail. The only thing I can see is the splash screen. Ah ha. It seems this happens when Photo is open. Opening Designer first seems to be a workaround. Late 2009 21-inch iMac, OS 10.10.5

    Designer won't open

OK, I've trashed and reinstalled both Designer and Photo, and so far things are beaving themselves much better. I was getting some generally buggy performance in both apps, and am thinking/hoping that this will sort that out. Thanks, MEB.

    Designer won't open

Thanks, MEB. I'm afraid it hasn't helped. And this time I tried startig it up it without Photo running, and wasn't able to open or create a doc :(
  24. I have a human figure selected in the middle of my image. I go to the Free Hand Selection tool and am able to use it to subtract from my selection. However I'm not able to add on to the selection. If I click inside my slected human figure, dragging simply moves the selection (marching ants) rather than adding onto the selection. This happens in all selection modes: New, Add, Subtract, and Intersect. I've attached a video which illustrates what is happening. Is this a bug? Affinity selection.mov
