  1. Hi @PhilipC, Seems you have cropped the original image and the cropped parts remain there but invisible but are still being affected by the FX (note the size of the image inside the thumbnail with lots of space around it). Right-click the image layer and select Rasterise & Trim to ensure it's size match the canvas. You can then apply the FX and it should work as you'd expect.
  2. Hi @_Amageton_, Welcome to Affinity Forums No, no fix yet, sorry. I've updated/bumped the report to bring it up to dev's attention again. Thanks for your feedback.
  3. Thanks @Wu Yu Sen, @rcniman I've updated/bumped the existing report to bring this up to dev's attention.
  4. Thanks Hangman. Reproduced here. I'm logging the issue to be looked at.
  5. Hi @anto, Set the "Align to" parameter to First Selected when you want to align using a key object.
  6. Hi @MarioDM, This is a known issue that's already logged with dev. Thanks for your feedback.
  7. Hi @MarioDM, The crash in the gradient tool when dragging a swatch is a known issue that's already logged with development
  8. The terminology as it is, is clear/correct, the problem is it isn't used consistently throughout the apps in several places and in the Help. I'm checking/logging all these cases and fill a report to fix this. Regarding the Ask for name improvement, I will add the Alt click option to the report I filled yesterday for a preference setting. Maybe both are implemented, it's up to the dev team/management.
  9. Hi Gatada, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. If it's a jpg then it means it contains clipping paths which are imported as vector masks in Affinity apps.
  10. Hi walt, The Layer command is being logged already along with the iPad issue.
  11. Thanks Walt. That's clearly inconsistent with the desktop app. I'm logging this to be looked at. @Return, I'm just explaining the reasoning behind these names. I have no personal interest (nor Serif I'm sure) in making the apps complicated - quite the opposite. The only difference when compared to Photoshop/Illustrator is that we call Photoshop's equivalent of layers - pixel layers (not layers). And the reason for this is to avoid confusion with Illustrator (and Affinity Designer/Publisher) layers term (which act as containers).
  12. @Return, From what I'm seeing in the forums people (specially regular users) do use the term Layer with capital L, when explaining things to other users. Regarding your example above - it should read "Layer - used for placing vector objects into". The description isn't quite accurate either since it can also hold other types of object inside including pixel layers (which are also missing from the list as well as fill layers, text on curve and probably more).
  13. Where are you seeing this? That doesn't really help unless it's being used generically to refer multiple types of vector objects (text, shapes, curves etc) and not as yet another type of layer.
  14. The terms are pixel layer and layer. People got used to call it layer with capital L to distinguish it from pixel layers because they also call them layer generically without preceding it with "pixel".
  15. Not necessarily. For someone using any app individually the term "layer" covers the regular/expected use it has in that type of application (like in the case of Photoshop and Illustrator - both have layers, they differ in functionality between them and nobody ever questioned their name) but in our case where the apps are tightly integrated (StudioLink for example) the need to distinguish between them becomes important thus the "new" term "pixel layer". @Alfred Maybe Container (for Layers) and Layer (for pixel layers) would have worked better but then nobody would understand the "Container" term and would eventually ask why didn't we call it Layer like everyone else... @Gatada This doesn't mean we can't add a similar function for pixel layers (ask for a name on creation).
  16. It's is correct because Affinity Photo do not support Layers as containers natively. Only Designer and Publisher does. If you go to these apps and use the exact same command from the menu you will see they create a Layer (container) by default, not a pixel layer. That's why in Affinity Photo we call them "pixel layers" and in Designer/Publisher just "layers" but since most people is used to layers for everything it does generate some confusion. Maybe the command in Photo should be Layer> New Pixel Layer.
  17. Yes, they are different. Pixel layers are the equivalent to layers in Photoshop. Layers in Designer are equivalent to layers in Illustrator. Since Affinity Photo is a photo editor it doesn't use layers as containers like Affinity Designer does. Of course this functionality could also be added to Affinity Photo as an improvement, but currently that option is working as intended.
  18. Layers in Designer are container elements that can have multiple types of object within (text, shapes, etc). Pixel layers in Photo are different - they can only hold pixel data. Same for groups which can also contain several object types - these are organisational/hierarchical entities.
  19. Hi @Gatada, It's working for both Layers (not pixel layer) and Groups in Designer/Publisher. I believe it's not supposed to work with pixel layers, only container´s type layers.
  20. Hi @clonkel, Another option without expanding the lines is to go to menu Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves. They are merged into a single curveS object.
  21. Hi @David Battistella, Welcome to Affinity Forums Thanks for your feedback. Apart from this thread there wasn't much requests for this as far as I'm aware. I've updated the report to bring it up to dev's attention.
  22. You are most likely opening a PSD, SVG, AI or PDF file (files that contains multiple types of data/objects (raster, vector etc), not a regular raster format (PNG, JPG, etc). What's the extension of the original file?
  23. These small nodes means they are not currently editable. Same happens with any shape created with the shape tools - you can edit their parameters/red nodes but you can manipulate the shape's nodes directly. You can only manipulate them after you convert the object to curves.
  24. Hi @denmow, Either click and drag the two vertical lines on the left of the Pages label to the top left of the workspace until a blue box appears to dock that (Left) Studio there, or go to menu Window > Studio > Reset Studio.
