I never use pixel layers because I like to stick to non-destructive layers. Plus pixel layers make the file exponential larger. This one of Kay Aldridge was done for Reddit. Ok, thx. It's for Photo indeed. I think i'll just stick to adding the adjustments to the presets and use it from there.

Let's say I have 2 documents. One is 200x150 and the other is 100x100. If I have a pixel or adjustment layer and copy it into the other document there is an overlap. Is there a quick way or shortcut to adjust the layer size to the current document size?

You'd be surprised of what can be done. Why not post one, maybe I can give some advice.

I already planned on doing that. This forum has it's emphasis on the how and not so much on the end-result. I have fine-tuned my workflow in 3 general steps. The scanning is not done in AP but the restoration of the original is. Second stage is masking all the areas and tone (colour) them. The masking is done with contrasting, and mostly wrong colours. If all the masking is done the colours are changed to correct colours. Final stage is colour grading and other post techniques very common to regular photography post production. So here it is: life in the 20th century without Affinity Designer

The better the original the less post is needed. And you nailed it with this one, just subtle adjustments. I like it though there is a bit of a green cast, at least on my screen, on the shadow tones. Especially her hair at the left side looks green.

Well the photo is nice and the dog is a cutie. But without the original shot it's hard to judge what has been done in AP.

Thanks MEB. More than happy to share my work while I still fiddle around with various techniques. Last two days I was playing around with AP's native blend mode instead of the cumbersome luminosity masks. Was a bit counter-intuitive at first but once you get the hang of it, it produces stellar results. I'll stick to them for a while Background story here on my FB page.

Last ode to a fallen comrade. A very powerful image but the original is very grainy, so it was tough to work on.

Excellent work. Seems like a nice way to learn AD. I got stuck using AD, but I might try this one time. Can you point out some tutorials or explain how you achieved this?

I use a gradient overlay as a base layer for the foliage. With a desaturated dark green for the dark areas and a bit more saturated green for the light areas. On top of that one or two extra layers for some variety.

I prefer to work on photo's from my own collection. Like this one. I own the original negative, it was taken over 100 years ago somewhere in France.

@jer thx for the heads up. You can get away with the Photoshop tutorials, the basics are the same really. You just have to translate it into the new tooling of Affinity. But I must say I haven't seen a tutorial yet which mimics my techniques. So yeah, I might do a tutorial someday.

Thx. That's true. In fact I'm currently working on one for a (small) museum. Also i'm in talks with the local archive for some stuff. Would love to do it more professionally, so I'll see where it takes from there. Thus far this is something I do in the evening hours besides my full-time job.

I did this one to practice on skin tones, one of the hardest parts of colorizing, painting or retouching. Think most artists will agree on that. I tried various techniques to get the skin tones, hope to fine tune the process in a couple of photo's more before I move on to the famous persons ;) The subject is from another war, might be NSFW.
