Where is the "prefer linked" setting? I'm using the mac beta.
When you create a new document you have the option right after the document sizes.

But I still am puzzled why setting the "Image Placement Policy" to "Prefer Linked" doesn't seem to work for me. Does it work for you?
11 minutes ago, R C-R said:Are you saying that the Image Replacement Policy "Prefer Linked" setting works for you? If so, are you using the Mac beta?
They work for me. I've done a quick test, i've placed 2 images in a document with prefer linked setting and then i've closed the document and deleted one of the pictures. I've reopened the document and i have a warning tell me that one of the resources are missing.

22 minutes ago, R C-R said:So have you found a way to link documents using only Designer? Otherwise, it seems to me the only use for the AD package function is to package fonts into the saved folder unless you can link the documents in APub (because placed documents are always embedded in AD).
IOW, at least for me, in this beta it does not matter if I set "Image Placement Policy" in File > Document Setup to "Prefer Linked." I get either an "(Image)" layer (for single layer file types like jpg or png) or an embedded document for multilayer file types (like for native Affinity files). So unless my AD document includes text, my saved package folder includes just an *.afpackage file & an empty "Images" folder.
If you use view > resource manager it doesn't help you make them linked/embedded?

I can reproduce your crash, but i have tested with some other shapes and no crash.
Here is my crash log attached.

@Jon P I think this is the same problem, since the Publisher .822 have the same and just not the bleed as i have reported here.
So, at the moment i can't create any custom sized document neither in Designer or Publisher.

The app crash, for me, everytime i try to use tab when when creating new document, then placing any number in page width and then using tab to go for page height.
Note: crash too only using click on height after inputting page width.
Crash log attached.

The app for me crash everytime i go to file-new, use a print press ready size, put a number in the first bleed input, for instance 0 and then use tab to go to the next bleed input

20 minutes ago, Hangman said:@dcarvalho84 Seriously, I'm the last to be critical of other users in this forum, but please, just grow up, the bleed in a document with artboards is working perfectly in the latest Beta so please don't criticise when someone is trying to:
a) be helpful and
b) you've not bothered or taken the time to do something correctly
I see this, 'I'm superior to you' or 'I know more than you do' attitude in so many forums and it really 'frustrates me' (to be polite). @walt.farrell was and always is trying to be helpful to others so please don't throw your toys out of the pram when you've failed to do something as simple as make sure the View > Show Bleed is checked as @Old Bruce pointed out!
Anyways, off my soap box now, some people need to 'learn' (sadly), as it should come naturally, to be kinder to others, it would seriously make the world a much better place than it is currently... 😀
I will just reply to you (and i'm opening an exception) to tell you that i really know where view-> show bleed is and what is it for but that is not my problem, if it's working for you fine. For me this is a closed case and i will not reply anymore regarding this.

11 minutes ago, walt.farrell said:If they didn't say it was fixed then it probably wasn't.
I'm almost sure it was working on 1.9.0.2 that's why i'm talking about it, and it is not the first time that you crash with me because you like to meddle in what does not concern you.
For me is enough. I'm just here to help find things and make the app better, but not this way. This is my last post here in beta forums. Sorry.

@MattP still can't see the bleed in a document with artboards.
No problems with brushes, neither vector or raster. Everything seems to be working.
I can reorder layers without problems in pixel persona too.

Thanks!
This gives me a much better understanding of it now.
Could be useful in labels for example.

I've just done a quick test using data merge, and it is ok for what i want it to do, but honestly i don't understand what we can do with the data merge node tool.
If someone have a quick video or something showing what we can do with it would be nice.
Thanks

Thanks I've stoped reading the new features as soon as i see Data Merge. Thank you, thank you a lot. Can't wait to try this!

I can confirm this too, and it was ok on 1.9.0.2. Pen tool, pencil tool.

Seems a little smaller in Catalina, especially when it's side by side with Designer or Publisher. Maybe due to the rounded corners... At this point i can't say if i like it or not 😁
On the top left, the persona one will remain square?

38 minutes ago, SPaceBar said:HI @dcarvalho84 To investigate this we'd need to be able see a video of the issue / look at the files so we can attempt to print them.
If you see the issue again please upload the file in question and provide as much information about the printer being used as possible.Yes, i know, but unfortunately when i have those i was a little bit tight on time and i've to do what i have said. I have some more printings to come since i have a print shop, and will let you know as soon as i spot another file with some problems. I will try to reproduce with the 2 i've had problems too.
-
I'm having a problem, at least twice, i've exported the file, no errors, the file seems to be ok, but when printed (happened with 2 different printers and 2 different files) i end up with some weird caracters.
The preset i'm using is the X-1a:2003 and unfortunately i don't have the files because i have to convert the font to curves and i've exported over the file but will be aware and as soon as i've another file with problems i will post it here.
(I know i shouldn't use the beta for work but that is the only way to find problems right?

37 minutes ago, walt.farrell said:We've always had the option of opening text in a PSD as either editable or bitmap, via Preferences, General. The new change (I'm guessing) simply changes the source of the bitmap when the Preferences do not say to keep it editable.
I don't this PSD enhancement is related to what you want. However, the PDF Passthrough part of the announcement may be what you (and a lot of other users) want (and have wanted for a long time)
Hmm maybe the PDF Passtrough could help but i've made a quick test with some downloaded pdf and don't work, even in preflight i have a lot of warning of missing fonts. I don't see any difference choosing Passtrough or interpret in this specific case (3 pdfs)
I have a result similar to Dazmondo77 and even exporting the files are not ok.
Edit: Now i've done another test and the files are almost 98/99% ok!!
@Dazmondo77 choose the preset PDF (Print) and give it a try.
@AdamW The first time i've done the test i've used the X-1a:2003 and it didn't work. Should the passtrough work on all presets??

4 minutes ago, walt.farrell said:You started out talking about the text you quoted, which refers to placed PSD files. You then gave an example that talks about a PDF file.
I don't see how your example relates to your first comment.
Because and before i test i think they are doing with PSD files exactly what i've explained (open the file completely in a bitmap way (as an image) and not editable) and want for PDF files. Or maybe i'm wrong and what i've quoted is not supposed to work like i'm thinking and that won't make sense for you but it does for me. Maybe i haven't explained myself the best way (I'm Portuguese

1 hour ago, AdamW said:PSD flattened image representation
When placing a PSD we now use the flattened bitmap representation in the file rather than interpreting the file content ourselves. This will generally give better results on output. If this is what i'm thinking i would love the abbility to choose bitmap or the way that it is now (editable) when we open pdf files, not only in Publisher, but Designer and Photo too would be really useful for me.
Ex: A client send me one file with fancy fonts or something and i need to set a plane for print with 4 on a page, at this time and since i don't have the assets in the pdf file i will end up with a file that is not like the original one and the option to place it/open as a bitmap (like photoshop does) would solve that problem for me.
