Disable automatic tool switching?
fernandolins86 replied to Leoz's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
+1 for changing this behaviour, please -
Hi Chris, The default worked great, thanks. I wonder why this is not in the Character panel top right menu as "Set as Default", though. Regarding selecting all the frames, I wouldn't be able to because they're in groups. Is there a way to filter the layers panel to only text objects, or something similar do Illustrator's Select > Object > Text?

Hokusai, Unfortunately looks like there's a feature set difference from Mac to Windows. My Tools preferences window does not have an option for marquee zooming (on Windows 10) :/ [Edit:] Actually it doesn't have an option to turn off scrubby zoom, but you get the idea My screenshot is in Portuguese but as you can see these are not the same options (not even same amount of options). -

Hokusai, Thank you! -
Hello, I would like to ask for a feature in which, when pressing a certain keyboard shortcut, every transform value would be rounded up or down to the nearest integer value. For example, I have a rectangle shape with the following settings: X: 0.6 Y: 0.4 Width: 100.1 Height 100.9 Then pressing Control + Alt + \ (or some other shortcut) would round all values up: X: 1.0 Y: 1.0 Width: 101.0 Height: 101.0 And Control + Alt + ' (or some other shortcut) would round them down: X: 0.0 Y: 0.0 Width: 100.0 Height: 100.0 Or maybe there could be an option that doesn't let the application move/scale to a non-integer value while it is on, like a 100% pixel lock. I believe this would immensely help me with pixel snapping issues as I work with UIs for both low and high DPI devices Thanks

Hokusai, How do you get box/marquee zooming in Designer? If I click and drag I get scrubby zoom. If I just click I get step-by-step zoom. In Illustrator if you click and drag you define an area to which the document will be zoomed (it will zoom until that area firs the visible area of the window). This would be great to have. It it is already in AD I have no idea how to turn it on. -
Great, Control seems to snap when duplicating, thanks! Is that an intended difference between alt-dragging and control-dragging, having snap on or off? Would be nice if dragging symbols from the panel would automatically snap because if you drop a symbol at say X 0.4 and Y 0.4 it will then move in 1px increments from that point (1.4,1.4; 2.4, 2.4; etc.) instead of snapping to the pixel "grid" and only attaching to integer values (1,1; 2,2; 3,3, etc).

Hi C (?), Here is a video of the issue: (right click and save) http://fernandolins.net/dwld/ad_snap.mp4 As you can see while I'm dragging there's no snapping to pixels going on, I can drop the object simply anywhere. It would only snap to pixels if I dropped it and then started dragging again. Thanks

Hello, I can't find a way to copy or save a color set in a color overlay layer FX to a swatch. If this is not possible yet, I think it's essential to a lot of UI designers out there. Thanks, Fernando

In my experience recruiting designers this is what I like to hear most. In the UI/UX field especifically, new tools are out every day and it's part of our creative curiosity to try them out and figure what's the best one to get to a certain result. If there are any workflows in the company that require knowledge in some specific software, this will be stated as a requirement in the job listing. For example, "developers MUST know dotNet development environment". However for designers the things we require from them are skill sets. "Must know vector drawing". "Must be able to create wireframes", "Must deliver projects in SVG, PDF or similar vector format". As a general rule, if a company requires any specific software knowledge it's either because it is embedded in their process through some larger scheme - like automation or contract with suppliers -, or there is someone who is NOT part of the workflow who is doing someone else's job. This second case is quite common in small companies. The company's owner who is a business man requires you to use Illustrator because he doesn't know vector drawing (the skill), he knows how to execute a set of steps in that software only.

Hello everyone, I have created several symbols in my AD document so I can test different color schemes in UI mockups. However I noticed that when I drag them into the canvas/artboard they do not snap to the pixels grid, becoming very fuzzy. Only if I release them and then start dragging again they will then start to snap to objects and moving pixel by pixel. It would be cool if they snapped to the pixels grid as soon as they are dragged onto the canvas so I can make quick drag and drop without having to realign them later. The three pixel alignment toggles at the top bar are on.

Correct, this semantic issue is what causes confusion, especially given that previous tools's (Photoshop, GIMP, Lightroom, Paintshop, Fireworks, etc) crop tool's behaviour does not mask objects, but trims the document's dimensions. I believe that if it works like that in Affinity Photo, then the behaviour should be the same in Designer, and then there would be another tool to apply this masking effect. So IMHO, the Crop tool should be exactly the same as in AP, and a new tool that masks the object as Crop does in AD 1.5.x should be created and named something other than "Crop". Otherwise people will keep trying to crop the way they're used to from Photoshop and AP with no success and this will be an ongoing complaint source.

I understand, but it is counter-intuitive. To me, the Crop tool does exactly what moving a bitmap inside a vector shape in the layers panel does: it masks it. Even the user manual refers to it as such: Masking - "reveals part of a layer while the rest of it is hidden". Vector Crop - "removes part of the selected object in non-destructive manner". I believe that if you're "removing part of it non-destructively" you're just masking it with a vector shape, right? If it's not the same result, please enlighten me. Also, if the tool has the same name in AP, why does it behave differently?
