motoko got a reaction from seabreeze in Custom document templates
I can't find it, so I'm assuming it's not there. But I could also be completely missing it.

Anyway, I do quite a bit of artwork for music labels and for that I create a lot of 'New Documents' with the same dimensions and resolution, same goes for the Facebook banners that usually go with a release. At this point I have a few template documents with the correct document setup. But I aways have to remember to save as... if I don't want to overwrite the current template.

First of all I would like to be able to specify my own document presets that I can choose when opening a New Document. This would include all parameters I can set in the New Document pop-up.

Secondly I also have a few documents that have specific settings in terms of grid, guide lines etc. I would love to be able to save a document as template. Basically it would save a document not as a Affinity file, but as a template. This would be a regular Affinity Document, but that could be chosen from the 'New Document' dropdown menu and would act as a starting point. Saving the file would work as normal, but would not overwrite the template.

    Hope this makes sense.

motoko got a reaction from A_B_C in Copy FX
I've been working with the latest beta and especially with the off-center rotation. Awesome job and this kills probably the last reason I was still using Illustrator (as I use Inkscape for path tracing). So I've been putting together some mandalas as test and noticed I am using the same (or similar) type of FX on multiple items. At this point I'm replicating the FX by switching between layers and typing in the values as I switch.

I would love to be able to drag the little FX icon onto a different layer or group to move. And using Alt as modifier to copy it.

Or some other option to make my workflow easier.

If there's already such a thing, I'm sorry for requesting this.

Hey guys, not sure this has been requested already, but here goes.

I often find myself having a workflow that has me moving from one document to the next. Where new documents are created based on parts of a previous file. What I'm really missing is the opportunity to create a new document based on the dimensions of the content I have on my clipboard.

So it would work as follows:
    - Select part from document 1 with 800x600 dimension
    - Hit Cmd+N for new document with 800 x 600 dimension
    - Paste content of clipboard centered in new document

Another thing that I find myself looking for regularly (kind of in the same process) is an option to trim the canvas to the content. Preferably with a adjustable margin, or auto-margin.

    Workflow:
    - Canvas is 1200x1200
    - Layers cover 800x600
    - Select the option Trim Canvas
    - Canvas is trimmed (this doesn't have to be pixels obviously)

And I finally I would really like to see some form of vector pattern creation tooling, including support for illustrator patterns.

I often have random shapes I want to fill with a vector based pattern. But it really takes a lot of time at the moment to fill in everything manually. Especially when you have spacing issues and repeating stuff to worry about.

    Thanks.

As I'm increasing my client list and move to working on more commissioned artwork with text I'm finding it very cumbersome having to restart Designer (and Photo) every time I add a new font to the font library. Maybe I'm missing something very basic here, but it would be great to be able to refresh the font list from within the font toolbar (or menu).

Here's a few examples of the work I'm doing with AD. I usually start with a hand drawn piece (pen, ink, marker) than scan, convert to vector (unfortunately not in AD (yet) and do additional processing with AD. (sorry for the big images, not sure where I can scale in the post)

Ha ha... Thanks guys. I've been drawing on and off for the better part of my life, but had a six year break while I was focusing on music. Just recently picked up my pens again.

I've thinking about woodcut and lino's but wanted to build up some solid foundation with the pens and markers first. So far I've been primarily working with paper, pigma microns and design markers. But I'm looking into getting started with brush pens / brushes and ink and working on canvas with acrylic markers as well.

As for AD I'm looking forward to getting more into coloring. Analog inking and digital coloring. I really like the workflow in AD and feel I can pick up pretty quickly.
