  1. It is possible that a object within your group is larger than the visible area.. a. like a large vector contained within a smaller shape b. remote single pixel present but not obviously visible c. a rotated object within a group can increase the group container size
  2. Hi In the sample file: If you turn off the FX on your sample file the Vector Brush will paint without much lag inside another object! Sometimes the brushes work better if the Snapping is disabled Not sure why the FX is causing issues...could be a bug!
  3. The second link was just to highlight the info section where there are some external links to help with creating brushes. (There are a few more 'tutorials' added to YouTube since I created it!...I might have a trawl through to see if I can add to the list!) Yeah!πŸ˜€..they are raster along a path rather than true vector... To get around it I just create some grunge vectors and transform into shapes I need...no big deal! I believe true vector brushes have been requested many times on the Forum.. just have to see what V2 brings as new features in the future!.πŸ˜€ With regards to the brushes you are trying create.. I have not really had any issues with 300dpi brushes.. but I tend to avoid creating very large brushes as the process slows down (Just like in most other apps!) You can go higher with the res for the Nozzle (stretched in the case of 'vector' brushes). I made all the brushes initially vector and then just exported as .PNG in export Persona. This made it much easier to create different effects. With raster brushes and patterns (Base textures) I increased the size of these to 400 x 400px last year just to get a scaled pattern when scaled up The 'vector. brushes are pretty good for laying down textures and quick sketching. I tend to group all the lines and raster the result..it is a pretty quick method and useful in the pixel persona There are also some threads on the Forum that could help you Vector Shading Brushes PNG REs I made a stack of vector brushes a long time ago here and a mix set here updated V2 dot brushes you could try them to get a better insight into creating brushes for your own sets Hope this helps!
  4. Hi Symbols are pretty powerful and can be utilised in a number of ways for UI | Patterns | Source Referencing and manipulating effects. UI Symbols Effects Patterns and Patterns Symbols should be ideal for creating UI Had a look at the sample file I can what you are saying with regards to the detached text and was not quite sure how that had been achieved. In the layers panel it looks as though the content text inside the button is 'detached' from the containing symbol [dotted line]. This would stop the symbol working correctly. I tested the options for using a symbol as an 'editable' button and appears to work correctly. 1. Changes to text in symbol reflect all symbols with Sync active and 'attached' 2. Inactive Sync allows for changes 3. Detach and create adds a new symbol 4. Detach and duplicate creates a group not symbol 5. Create Duplicate group creates a symbol You can create alternate versions of the same symbol but deactivating the Sync or detaching the original Symbol and creating a new one A bit confusing but logical: 1. A detached symbol that is duplicated becomes a group as no longer symbol 2. You seem to be able to detach the contents of a symbol without removing the symbol appearance in the layers panel. This stops it working as a symbol Not sure whether this is a bug or by design but you could try different options with the Detach | Create; nested symbols or toggling the Sync to get better results Hope this helps! 5. Hi I tend to output vector Brush PNG's at 300 dpi but you can go higher if you are not getting the results you expected. As far as I am aware there have been no significant changes to the Vector Brushes between V1 and V2 so the process of creating brushes should not have changed. When experimenting with the early brush sets I tended to build 'vector brushes' with lengthy images (X= 2000px+ ) This give you a smoother brush but not really necessary. You can easily produce adequate brushes that are much smaller (say x=500px + n height) Also advisable to set up a template to export multiple PNG's from the Export Persona. Where you can also control size options automatically from the output ...Saves a lot of time if you are creating lots of brushes! Some time ago I put together a PDF based tutorial which may be of help with the design and construction of Vector Based Brushes. Linked as below: There are also some additional 'off Forum' links in the information section of this thread that are also very useful when constructing vector brushes. (NB Need to be updated..as I am sure there are a few more references online that would be useful!πŸ˜€) Also consider that the Size of the DPI in the document can influence the function and size of the vector brush. There is a thread relating to this here
  6. There are a lots of simple ways to achieve this with vectors : A. Pencil tool and sculpt You can use the Pencil tool to distress a vector edge. 1. Convert shape to curve 2. Select Pencil Tool 3. Turn on Sculpt on context bar 4. Redraw your shape B Add additional irregular shapes to edges using Boolean options 1. Draw some shapes 2. Position over edge and 'weld' with Boolean C. Use the new Knife Tool to cut out shapes from the edges of a regular shape D. Draw additional shapes and join using the new Shape Builder tool
  7. Hi.. puzzled! One other option is to rebuild the file from scratch. I noticed that the background cat image is rotated from bottom left. You could try rebuilding with a portrait image without any rotation. Rotated | scaled images in InDesign would always cause a lot of issues. They are large images at 300dpi. So I ran a test at different sizes and formats by copying out the files and resaving. Then rebuilt the AD file just to see what happens. I have rebuilt the file as low 72Dpi and with placed images from original resized | re-formated to jpeg | png's for transparency and imported into original doc size in AD2. Then Editing this file in Publisher and attempting to package gives the correct results. It finds the files! Can you see what you get with this one... Strangely. I believe the issue could be 1. the images are not really present in the file for some reason!. 2. Size 3. Rotated objects reconstructed 03.afdesign
  8. I ran out of ideas Sorry!... I just tried editing the Cover 1 file in Publisher...so open AD2 the select edit in Publisher and tried to package the document. Strangely even though I can see 2 (embedded) px images Publisher states there is nothing to package!?
  9. I resaved the file with artboard added left the res at 72dpi cover 01.afdesign
  10. Ok erm!..A couple of other suggestions.. I as hoping the first suggestion was the reason.. i.e something in local settings..As your file opens as expected on PC (at 1000m x 1500mm!). It looks as though it is being pasted but not visible... 1. When you copy | paste are you bringing the copied objects back inside another object by accident? or in a layer not active or off working area..add a large artboard at the back to see if it becomes visible! 2. Could it be due to different 'scales' settings between docs? (Like you are copying something large into a smaller doc! or visa versa!)
  11. Strange! Have you 'Clip to Canvas' Active in View > View Mode ?
  12. Pleased you have a handle on understanding the issue. I think the route cause is that the Transparency tool is part of the vector tool set. not pixel. The other simple way would be to add a basic mask. Select the mask and apply a gradient (Black | white) Then set the transparency values as you wish in the color palette
  13. In your file all you need to do is select the Px layer apply group then use the transparency tool to create the effect. Or you could use a mask
  14. Hi have a look at this file On the left is a group of objects with transparency (Contains a mixture of vector and raster) On the Right is the same image but I have added a vector inside the px orange for the mushroom. and set the fill | grad to erase and 0-100 Transparencies 01.afdesign
  15. I used to have an issue with the way this works but it has some real advantages if you simply apply a simple rule 1. Consider that the transparency tool (Y) is in the Vector Persona 2. That the most effective way of applying a transparency to a px object is to just group it switch personas and apply Y key 3. You can do this multiple times! Ie set 1 transparency the group and set another (really useful if you want to control blends) Or You could use a mask!πŸ˜€ and you can insert a vector curve inside a pixel layer in the layers panel and re-colour or set it's blend mode to erase and define the graduation values 0-100% (this will hide the pixel master layer like a vector mask)
  16. You could try opening the file then selecting File > Save as Package Or To collect images | Linked files: View > Resource manager (Select the files [lined or embedded]) and select 'Collect' Source a folder (Should acquire all selected images in resources into a selected | chosen folder)
  17. Definitely more responsive especially after the Windows 22H2 update. I really like the new setting 'Distance' in the brush dynamics. can create some interesting line effects.. Had to backtrack a bit with the patterns; for the vector assets and reintroduce a rectangle container to assist with the seamless patterns for 'Quick Fill' but apart from this worked pretty well. Brush fluidity A. In some brushes I removed | diminished the rotation jitter (where not needed). This also had an effect on the speed | smoothness of the brush. B. Allowed the dynamics graph have greater control over the shape of the brush line C. Base textures controlled remotely rather than multiple brushes. The scaling \ size process was reversed.. had to compensate for it
  18. Brush Tests These 2 were Brush tests using Comic Sketcher and quick fill as overlay but have also used them as the thumbnails for the 2 brush sets
  19. The 'wet edge' option can have quite a dramatic effect on the brushes.πŸ˜€ The 'Paint | Texture brushes attached to PB 19 such as 'Rhyolite' with wet edges active make useful textures painters... I had a test set for V2 but have removed it now! with repeats of the same brush but changing the options | functions. I have sort of changed the way I create | build brushes...instead of having brushes as complete sets; I added the options of using just the nozzles; then importing the pattern as required , hence PB 31. Makes it a bit more efficient and reduces the number of brushes but also adds a lot of options. PB 19: Inker full version not the sample set! has 200 inking seamless patterns attached.. The Concept Brush set also not on the forum equally has 200 seamless patterns as greyscale (get a better build up of paint with repeated strokes!) and the Comic sets here have 80. Wanted to just concentrate on the 'vintage' comic patterns in this toolkit. hence the brush split from 'Untamed' Where I can just concentrate on concept brush sets!. The new functionality in V2 : Quick Fill has added extra options. I was initially going to just create a set of assets to supplement the brushes as vector. Which is what the incomplete pattern sets are above. But now I believe that the Toolkit should have a set of simple seamless patterns as vectors in the assets. So you can just drag them onto the fill swatch and scale + add to PaletteπŸ˜€. Works pretty well but colour is a slight issue: Made the Vector assets red so you can see them. So have to use adjustments to re-colour. I used it on the latest Inktober drawings! Before I built the template (W.I.P) I looked at the options in Clip Paint Studio to compare how the pattern fills | tools and layout options compare. AD 2.0 is getting close to being able to deploy | function drawing options in a similar way..
  20. Project Brush Set 30: Comic GrungeThis is my personal take on 'Vintage' Comic Patterns40 Comic Grunge Pattern Brushes80 PNG (400 x 400) Interchangeable seamless base textures Extracted the originals from 'Untamed' Thread as think more appropriate here. Edited the sample sheets to indicate the active patterns contained in the brush set and the optional patterns available. Essentially because I want to extend the pattern options to include those added when updating the Comic Sketch Brushes Pattern Brushes Optional Patterns
  21. No Problem. you should find the Inker sample set useful. Mixing the brushes with PB 31 Base Texture Toolkit should give you a lot to work with. I will add some more texture patterns when I get a chance!
  22. Yep! Are you looking for the brushes or textures? 1. The Comic sets and textures I have not completed yet but you could easily use PB 19 Inker Sample set. I have updated some of the Sketching and inking brushes to version 2 To take advantage of the new brush dynamics. These sets are in resources section The texture brushes themselves don't really need editing they can be just imported into V2 apps 3. They are linked at the top of the Inktober Thread 4. Or you could search through the big list 5. I updated the brushes for Texture Pencils and INK Sketching as well (The brush set above is based on these) PB 13 | 15 Textured Pencils & INK sketcher PB 31 Base Texture Toolkit Has a small number of the Base Texture PNG's that can be interchanged with any of the brushes PB 19 INKER has a V2 Updated sample set 6. The vector textures as above have not been completed yet SO its Still W.I.P. I need to assemble the seamless patterns back into assets so they can be used as 'Quick Fill Textures'..new AD2 feature
  23. Interesting: I downloaded the attached file to have a look a this issue. initially it looked as though this was a bug in the scaling ratios not being reflected | matched between fields. Opening the file and editing as described indeed created this response in the values. So: 1. I loaded some of my own brushes (V1 as not edited as there have been no changes for vector brushes! PB 04 Ammonite in resources..to play with different sizes!) and the effect can be be reproduced.. 2. Set scaling off and adjusted scaling over-rides on the Transform Panel.. Issue still present 3. Examined Document settings to see if settings on scaling was incorrect in some way BUT Noticed that the DPi for the file is non standard. i.e not in the dropdown options. (you can add your own values)..but the dpi set for this document file is 4800 DPI Changing the value to something more appropriate like 300 or 400. reflects on the settings being displayed on the brush sizes Not sure whether a bug (i.e how did values get set so high) or it is just a reflection on the brushes responding to the settings pf the document? Hope this helps
  24. πŸ˜€..Yeah!.. you could get eaten ..or worse.. fed to carnivorous plants!.. that would be a surprise!πŸ˜€ Using the new Comic Brush sets has helped a lot. but the texture is just a rectangle overlay.. I grabbed some of the vector assets (Brush base textures | seamless patterns) and dropped them into the fill swatch.. wow really quick!.. and a good test to see if they are working correctly!
  25. Been a bit of a gap but thought I would do some more! Affinity 2.0 Drawings 08 Match and 09 Nest completed using New Brush Set PB 32 Comic Sketcher and Comic Pattern assets from PB 30 Comic Grunge and PB 19 Inker + Sample Set. I really like the new option of being able to add assets to fill swatch on the context bar (Quick Bitmap Fill as described on affinitySpotlight!). It it really useful for adding Grunge Texture overlays.. and has been used in these 2 drawings...had to use adjustments to re-colour as patterns were red! (So I could see them in the assets panel!πŸ˜€)
