Colour separation
Fixx replied to Giuseppe's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I guess it work similarly as current PS. From RGB to CMYK: Document > Colour Format CMYK (8 bit). You can set the desired colour profiles in Preferences. Convert to profile seems not work between colour spaces. -
How to Bitmap Photos
Fixx replied to g0liver's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If OP asks about 1-bit bitmap art (line art) there is no such mode in AP (yet). I might form a request about it as there are really not many tools for 1-bit work out there (except PS). -
Are you talking about JPEG compression? Looks quite normal compression scheme to me (maybe reduces size/quality more dramatically than PS when slider is dragged).

Graphic User Interface Affinity
Fixx replied to Snooman's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Good points. I would add that Affinity UI would be better if focus/selected options were more clearly presented. Like which layer is active etc. -
Command-M is "Curves"
Fixx replied to Australian Zoomer's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Cmd+M is for Curves in PS, I suppose that is the reason for it. Me likes. -
Cubic interpolation for gradients
Fixx replied to Herbert123's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Sounds to me like "blend curves". That is, how fast one color mixes to another. Linear mix clearly is not always very useful. -
Web publishing is indeed a different game. To produce high quality publishing still and again takes considerable technical ability as ready made tools just do not have the flexibility code and functionality. For simple sites simple tools like Blocs are very good though.

About Panorama tool: It would be really useful if it was possible to save final panorama image as LAYERED image. That is, the images which make the composite image (placed, rotated, stretched, color matched) would each be an individual layer. There could be a simple tick box in save as dialog "(x) Keep layers". As essentially stitching produces layered image until you finalize it this should not be too complicated to implement. Also, it would be nice if panorama tool would accept Photoshop files. I had to convert to tiff to make panorama.

There is also the fact that it is very easy to check if the resolution is enough for planned print size when you have correctly working image size dialog. For example you plan to print 1400X1000 mm size exhibition piece and when you put those values to size dialog you get dpi value: if it is below 300 dpi you may have to reconsider the print size..
-
Sorry but you did not quite understand the problem. Physical size should change according the dpi value when resample option is not selected. PS handles this right, AP does not update correct values.
-
Without resample checked you cannot set size in mm, cm etc. DPI value can be set but it does not update to size values.

Affinity and old mac
Fixx replied to grzessnik's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Someone with core2 processor and 4 GB RAM might want to clarify if this performance problem is normal for that old mac or if there is really something wrong. It might be either, so far no one has reported to have that level of hardware yet. -
Hmmm. Many people think LR modal interface is cumbersome. I think it is just ok. Compare it to Affinity Photo – it's "persona" modality is certainly not easier! Importing: That is ok too. Of course lesser import time is better, but is it technically possible alter images on the fly, having some kind of instant previews? Folder organizing in LR is a joke for sure, there is no ways to manage folders or their order. Non-destructive editing: I am not sure people understand that it is very different animal compared to plain vanilla pixel work. It just may be too hard to built application with instant non-destructive editing. Exporting: for me the exporting is speedy enough. After all LR is building final images there, from the non-destructive edits. Database: that is the main reason LR exists. Everything you ever have imported to LR is easy to find. (I just wish there would be a simple way to add keywords to images themselves – OS certainly supports keywords meta). That said, I am quite sure there is going to be a lot of progress in non-destructive editing software in coming years. I am sure Affinity would make a good app with a lot of ground breaking features.

You know you are right! There is a channels palette, you can select one channel, select all pixels and move it. It is not as straightforward as in PS, you have to switch tool from marquee to arrow, channel palette does not light up active channel etc. Attached test file (converted back to RGB for www display.

Colour/Tonal Range seems quite useless right now. I would like to have a selection tool like Hue/Saturation in PS where you can adjust target very accurately. Except I would like there to be luminosity targeting too in addition of H/S.

Powerful selection tools would be very needed feature. I routinely clean up CAD drawings (PDF) which have thousands of objects, which all may be weirdly grouped and very inefficiently built. They though usually have color coding and maybe line thickness. Also, it would be nice to be able to select objects smaller than (put your value here). That way I could get rid of vector rasters etc.

Of course you can switch to FCPX if you want to give up Premiere. Also DaVinci Resolve is getting more popular.
