  1. To convert text to curves (outlines), in the menu, Layer > Convert to Curves.
  2. There are multiple ways to group objects in Publisher. I use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+G on Windows (Mac, I think Command+G). There's also a 'Group' button in the Context Toolbar when multiple objects are selected, and 'Group' can be accessed in the menu Layer > Group. There's an option to Ask for name when creating Layers and Groups in Settings > User Interface if you'd like to be prompted to enter a layer name when creating layers. This Affinity help page explains all the ways to group objects: https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/pages/ObjectControl/group.html
  3. Running Adobe CS and Affinity apps at the same time doesn’t cause any issues that I’m aware of. I occasionally open Photoshop CS6 while working in Affinity 2 apps and have never had any problems on my Windows 10 computer. If a computer has limited processing power and RAM, it could become sluggish if two large files are being worked on at the same time, but that’s a system resource issue, not an issue between Affinity and Adobe apps.
  4. The Affinity and Canva Pledge (published March 27, 2024) states that multi-page spreads “will be released over the coming year” as a free update to V2.
  5. Something that often trips me up is that when the Affinity app is already open, opening an Affinity file via Windows File Explore (double clicking the file or dragging it to the Affinity app window) does not move focus to the Affinity app — when the file opens, focus remains on the File Explorer window. I have to click somewhere on the Affinity UI or on the Affinity icon in the taskbar before I can begin working on the file. When the File Explorer window is active, some Affinity keyboard shortcuts, like ‘Z,’ trigger the Windows error notification sound. I wonder if this is the issue you’re experiencing.
  6. To add to the info others have provided, when the 72 DPI and 400 DPI documents are exported as JPG using identical export settings, the resulting JPG files will be the same file size and dimensions.
  7. I tend to go for 96-150 depending on the image, but that is it. Are you changing the DPI in Affinity documents and resampling to change the file’s dimensions? For on-screen viewing of PNG and JPG files, the file dimensions (pixel resolution) matters, DPI does not.
  8. The DPI of the Affinity file has no bearing on the exported raster file (png, jpg). See my previous comment.
  9. I created a post about Text Replacement not working. What I didn’t realize when I created the post is that, as you mention @bArt.y, system autocorrect doesn’t work either. Serif advised support for Text Replacement has been logged as an improvement request. I don’t know if system autocorrect is a separate issue, but I hope it will be supported too.
  10. From my experience, a file name reverts to ‘Untitled’ on the Home Screen when the file has been saved to iCloud, and subsequently the file is deleted on iCloud (and deleted from the trash).
  11. Click on the degree value and you'll then be able to enter a number.
  12. If you're exporting raster files like JPG or PNG to be viewed on screens (web, etc.), the document DPI doesn't matter. All that matters is the pixel resolution (i.e., pixel dimensions). DPI is a physical unit of measure and there is no fixed relationship between pixels and physical units of measure. It can be hard to wrap your head around, but here's a little experiment that may help. Create a 400 DPI graphic in Affinity Publisher. Export the file as a PNG or JPG. In Document Setup, change the Document DPI from 400 to 1. Export the file in the same file format as in step 1 (PNG or JPG). The files exported in step 1 and step 2 will be the same file size and dimensions.
  13. How do I do this? I've looked on the forums, poked around at some buttons in-app, and did a google search but I can't find anything. If you’d like the gradient to span the entire canvas, use the Rectangle Tool to create a rectangle the size of the canvas, or create a Fill Layer, which always covers the entire canvas (unless it has a mask applied to it). Then use the Gradient Tool to create the gradient on the Rectangle layer or the Fill layer. An alternate way to create a gradient is with Layer Effects (FX), which includes a gradient option. Layer Effects are rasterized when artwork is exported to vector file formats, whereas gradients created with the Gradient Tool are exported in vector format. Here are relevant Affinity help pages in case they’re helpful. Rectangle Tool https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_rectangle.html Fill Layers https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Layers/layerFill.html Gradient Tool https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_gradient.html Using Layer Effects https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/LayerFX/create_layerFX.html
  14. (Edit: Walt beat me to it. 🙂) In addition to the Guides that GarryP mentioned, if you’d like to position objects relative to the canvas or relative to other objects, there are two ways to do that: Snapping and Aligning. I’m thinking Snapping may be what you want. There are Snapping options that enable aligning objects to the middle of the canvas (Snap to spread + Include spread mid points) and snapping to the middle of other objects (Snap to object bounding boxes + Include bounding box mid points). Snapping https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/DesignAids/snapping.html The Alignment feature is also an option. You can select objects and align them relative to one another or relative to the canvas. Aligning https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/LayerOperations/align.html
  15. Ah, I see what you're saying. I overlooked that part in the OP. Good catch.
  16. The node of the circle that's being dragged is what will snap to the curve... so when the circle snaps to the object, part of the circle will be above the object being snapped to. I don't think I've overlooked anything, but let me know if my instructions don't work for you.
  17. Yes, the circle can be snapped to the curve above it. Here are the steps: In the Snapping options, enable Snap to object geometry. Convert the circle to a curve (Layer > Convert to Curves). Select the circle in the Layers panel, and with the Node Tool, drag a selection around the entire circle so all nodes are selected (hollow nodes will become filled). Shift-click the top node of the circle and drag up until it snaps to the curve. The above steps assume the circle is already snapped to the left side of the object. If the circle isn't already aligned with the left edge, you would first click and drag the left node of the circle and snap it to the left edge of the object... then proceed with step 4 above.
  18. The individual Affinity apps are separate purchases for each OS. The Universal License includes all three apps (Designer 2, Photo 2, and Publisher 2) on all operating systems. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/affinity-pricing/
  19. I was confused by memories of forum discussions about V2 launch pricing and the subsequent launch of the V2 upgrade offer. I was incorrectly thinking sale prices are for new customers only, and the V2 upgrade offer was the only discount current customers could receive. Upon closer inspection of the V2 upgrade offer page, I see pricing, including the current sale, is clearly displayed... I understand now. 💡🙂
  20. I’m confused, but hopefully the OP understands and has the info they need to make a decision. 🙂
  21. I thought the 50% off sale was only for new customers, and the 25% off the V2 Universal License + free content was the only discount available for V1 owners.
  22. There’s a discount for V1 owners who upgrade to the V2 Universal License. As far as I know, no discount for upgrading individual apps. Universal License upgrade offer https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/store/upgrade-offer/
  23. Hey @fallingblox, As far as I know, it's not possible to snap objects to guides or grids using the arrow keys. You can edit the distance objects move (nudge distance) with the arrow keys... I don't know if this would help you in your work. To edit nudge distance: Edit > Settings (Preferences on Mac?) > Tools. You can set the Nudge Distance (arrow keys) and Modifier Nudge Distance (Shift + arrow keys).
  24. If you want to keep the objects on the same layer, select the layer, with the Node Tool, drag a selection around all the nodes of the shape.
  25. Adobe provided clarification about the updated Terms of Use on their blog yesterday (06/06/2024). I’m not going to post a link to an Adobe site in an Affinity forum, but the title of the blog post is: A clarification on Adobe Terms of Use. Now hopefully we can all get back to talking about Affinity rather than the ‘A’ word. 🙂
