I've picked up some freelance work on a game that uses a limited 256 colour pallet. So any colours not in the pallet can not be used. I have played around with some conversion apps that convert true colour images to the pallet, but there are often undesirable results. I want to try creating the images directly in the pallet, so only the "exact and correct" colours can be used during the creation process. In photoshop, as far as I know, you can do this by editing a "indexed colour image" with the correct pallet set, but in this image mode you can not use layers nor can you use any of the effects and most of the filters. I was wondering if Affinity would be an option for me to use... I am hoping there is a way to set a strict colour pallet to an image, then edit it, use layers and effects and filters, but still always keep the indexed colours limited to a provided pallet. Is this possible and if not, what methods that are in the wheel-house of what I am trying to do, would you recommend?

Affinity Designer : How can I smooth lines?
itisme replied to itisme's topic in Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I ended up taking it to an vector AI app I found form "there's an AI for that" and used that to optimise and smooth the nodes of the lines... then did some tweaking.. and it ended up looking pretty good. Thanks -
I have used this app to build a deck of cards for a boardgame project. Side note, the app worked extremely well for this. Anyway I have an issue. The publisher has come back and asked for all the card numbers to have the size increased. I would like to resize a single number by scale, and then apply that to the 13 other numbers. What would be a good method to go about that? I know I can click on the number and enter a value in the transform, but as each number is a different scale, like a 1 is thinner than a 13, entering a hard value into each of these boxes will not work.

Yes.. I should have been more clear.... I am not using the "artistic text tool" as I'm using all the text box overflow stuff as well as warping the text with some images... So to be clear I can use the transform values to scale the text box... but there is no visual tool for that? It has to be a numeric value entered?

I can not work out how to scale text... like I have been able to do it sometimes, but I can not work out how.. Say I have a text block.. I want to scale it so it is taller and slightly wider... but when I click on it and drag the handles it only changes the size of the text box the text is appearing in. Even if I make a group of the text box... clicking still only changes the size of the text handles.... but sometimes during working on the porject it has worked... and I can not work out how to do it on purpose. TL:DR : This is a mock up, I did in affinity photo... it is exaggerated to get my point across. The left image is how it looks in the text box... How can I scale the text in a non-uniform way. Also, if there is a way to apply the FX post-scale, that would be extremely good.

Yeah I was thinking of using masks.. but had not gotten around to test it... So if the text block was done with a master... editing the original text block would edit all the layers you have... or is there another method to be able to edit the text black and change all the text layers in one go? This mask idea.. how dose it work with deforming images? Like if I place a wrap around image over this text block.. it will change the position of the words in every layer in the same way.. but will the mask change position?

If I have a text block... aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa BBB aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa aaa Is it possible to apply FX to just the BBB part of the text, without affecting the rest? Or do I need to split it off completely into a new level. I know I can select the text and change things like font or colour or stroke and stuff with out "breaking" the text block... but what about FX?

I think my situation is a little unusual. I am using the app to make Cards for a board game. This requires a lot of repeating elements across every card, but also unique adjustments on every card. For example, I am using a master for the card art. Editing the master edits the art for every card that uses that art. So I have a master for every single card art source. I also have iconography that is applied to make cards. Using masters means I can get feedback from the publisher and change ALL the cards. The thing is I only recently found out about "edit detached". I couldn't work out how it functioned before. Now that you can make a master and have the ability to adjust transforms on the applied master to the page, as well as hiding and even deleting components of the master. I could consolidate many of my masters into a single master.. like a single one called Iconography. For at the moment I have a different iconography for each card type that is a composite of the "icon" masters. Edit the icon, edit the iconography masters of every card. Edit the master of the card type to fix any issues. Now I can simply have a single master with all the iconography for every card and then hide the unneeded groups. Reducing (in this case) 10 masters, to 1. Same with the card art. I can now have a single Card Art Master with all the art on different layers.. then just hide the ones I am not using on individual cards. (not sure if that makes sense, making things look good is a lot more natural to me than speaking!).

I figured it out... SOLUTION : You can right click on the applied master and select EDIT DETACHED. You can now use transforms, even scale. You can also hide and even delete components of the master. This is a game changer.. and I wish I knew it at the start of the project as it really changes everything. As in I could have used a lot less masters!

When you make a Master that uses a Text input, you can in fact edit the text input on the page it is applied to. This is very handy for stylised headers, "zoomed" info boxes and stuff like that. The thing is that while you can change the text, all the components of the master are "transform locked". So you can not adjust there position. So while a master might have a word nice and centred, if you edit the text and change that word, then it is now not in as nice a position, but there seems no way to nudge it back into place. Is there anyway to be able to nudge components imported to your page form a master.. like say moving a component of the master, without effecting the master but still retaining the "instance" relationship to the master, so any single change to the master can effect the applied pages?
