  1. Hay, thanks. Sorry about the delay in replying. I’ll give toe DOF blur a go. Thanks again.
  2. Hi Derei, Thanks for the post. I had tried a few methods and didn’t reach the results I was wanting. I’m very pleased with the results received from the technique you posted. Again thank you. Paul
  3. I, like you, am retired and enjoy photo editing and post processing. Simon Foster on UDEMY recommended 100%. Once you purchase a class it’s yours for future reference. Drippy cat will take you as far as you wish to go. He is also quick to answer comments/requests through the link provided by UDEMY. Have fun!
  4. Hi Chris, Thanks for the rapid response. I tried starting the app with the with the control key held down with no change. The app still crashed. I wanted to be sure that I understood your instructions so I also tried the command key and the option key. None of these worked to solve the problem. I don't believe that I mentioned that I'm on a Mac Book Pro, in case that makes a difference. I haven't run into any other problems yet with the 1.6.6 update. Thanks, Paul 11/18/2017 Update: Thanks, Chris, I went back and methodically worked through your fix and I finally understood what you were telling me to do and it worked. It sometimes takes a while to get things through my thick head. Thanks again, Chris Paul
  5. Good Morning, I'm a dedicated user and supporter of Affinity products. Keep up the excellent work. Need some help. Affinity Photo 1.6.6 crashes each time I attempt to open preferences. Any suggestions or is app delete and re-download my only option? Thanks for the help. Paul
  6. I've watched the majority of the official Affinity Photo videos and all of Simon Foster's UDEMY videos. Some tutorials I could immediately apply. What I found helpful for my particular workflow was to start on a project until I got stuck and then go back and look for the specific Affinity videos that covered my problem area. Another approach that has worked for me is to locate a Photoshop of Lightroom process video on YouTube or even UDEMY that interested me and set out to duplicate the work with Affinity Photo by going back to Affinity Photo videos or Drippy Cat tutorials. Most of the time this has been very successful. There is a lot to learn and the process of doing so is rewarding.
  7. Those all look to be composites, easily accomplished in Affinity Photo. My suggestion would be to watch the AF video tutorials on Vimeo.com. Also, check out video tutorials in udimy.com Simon Foster on Affinity Photo. Best of luck and enjoy! Paul
  8. Sorry, I must have missed it. Great minds think alike. Thanks, Paul
  9. Good morning, Thanks, I like your solution. Simple and clean. Paul
  10. Thanks very much. I couldn't figure it out, now I see there is truly 'more than one way to skin a cat'. -paul-
  11. Thank you all, I'm anxious to try all the suggestions as soon as I get home from holiday. And yes, please the multiple postings for the same question. I'm using a WiFi at sea and it is dead slow. I didn't think the posting published the first two tries. Again, thanks. Paul
  12. Good Morning, I have been looking for a way to create a Gaussian blur gradient. That is to say slightly blurred on one end of an object and progressively becoming more blurred toward the other end of the object. Specifically a shadow of an object (pole) composted into a photo. I have been told that there is a way to accomplish this in PhotoShop using a channel selection and applying a gradient to the selection. Is this possible with Affinity Photo? If so how. Thank you. Paul, Ocala, Florida, USA
  13. Im' in support of this last statement. If you can't add CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, keep your comments to yourself.
  14. The Wacom tablets functions the same with AP as it does with AD. Go to System preferences, locate Wacom tablet and set up preferences specific to short cut keys you use most on AP. Edit and enhance away! :D
  15. Hi, I ran into the same problem working through the tutorials. Contacted the Forum and received the following answer: Hi PaulDean, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) This is due to a bug that prevents the boolean operation Add to work properly (already logged). To "fix" your project do the following: - select the shape on the top (the large one) - change to the Node tool and drag a marquee around all nodes of the shape - click on the Smooth button in the Convert section on the context toolbar You can now perform the add operation as indicated in the tutorial, selecting both shapes and pressing and holding ⌥ (option/alt) while clicking on the add icon. The result should be correct. This 'fixed' the problem and I went on and completed most of the tutorials. Hope it helps. PaulDean, Ocala, FL
  16. Good Morning folks, Thanks for the group of Affinity Designer tutorials. I've watched all of them. Now, I'm working through them step-by -step. I am working with the tutorial titled 'For Beginners Too'. I've ran into a problem. I've reached the point where two objects are to be combined - the blood on top with the blood dripping down - in order to edit them as a single group. The tutorial instructs me to select both objects, then to hold down the alt/option key then click on the first combine icon with the '+' sign on it. My results differ from the tutorial (see attached screen shot). I don't have the one combined object with separate editable components. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help, Paul Ocala, Florida
  17. I find that I can adapt Photo Shop tuts to AP. See if that will work for you.
  18. Hi, Fabulous information. Keep it up. I've worked with some of your tutorials in the past and was very pleased. Also it was very interesting to put a face with a voice. You don't look anything like I had you pictured in my mind. Again, thanks and I look forward to future tutorials. paul - Oaala, FL
  19. Good Morning, Thank you for the additional videos. Techniques and demonstrations from other users is always welcome. I am looking forward to additional videos from you. Again, Thanks. Paul
  20. Good Morning, Is there a way of flipping the Golden spiral overlay either horizontally of vertically while cropping an image? Thanks, Paul
  21. Hi Folks First off, this isn't a question but a comment. I just received my October 2015 copy of Popular Photography where they published a good review of Affinity Photo. The lead in on the front cover is the top headline on the cover. The article is on page 42 for three pages. Check it out!
  22. I have been working with Affinity Photo for a few weeks now. I was introduced to it through the Apps Store. I bought it and opened it up. After looking around for just a few moments I closed it and started looking for a manual or other instructions. From the Affinity web site I found the Forums section and from there, the instructional videos. I can identify with some of the "newbie" folks that key in very confused with what is what on the fabulous AP software. I can suggest trying what I did. I viewed EVERY Affinity Forum video tutorial, more than once. Then after each one, I practiced what I saw until I understood all the ins and outs. I also located YouTube videos and did the same thing, even the ones in German. With these, I Killed the sound and ran them at half speed so not to miss a move. (Now, some are coming in with english subtitles.) All of this worked very well for someone who had never worked with PhotoShop. I have now purchased Affinity Designer. Me, with out a lick of artistic talent. I'm going through all the tutorials just as I did with AP. Maybe something will ware off from one of the expert designers or illustrators. Thank you all very much. Paul, Ocala, Florida
