Gave it some more thought and how about this: Presuming that there will be both pages and artboards, how about separate panels dedicated to each. When you select a page in the pages panel, all artboards associated with it are highlighted in the artboards panel. Then you select one of the artboards and all layers associated with it are highlighted in the layers panel. It's a little lengthier process but it keeps things both separated and associated. If you wanted the process to be a bit more aggressive, you could set up a kind of isolation where selecting a page isolates all artboards in the artboards panel and selecting an artboard isolates all associated layers in the layers panel. How's that?

Plugin Support in Affinity Designer
JimGoshorn replied to jmac's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
I sent Astute the link to this thread. As one of their customers, I certainly would happy to see the plug-ins become available for Designer. Maybe the two companies should get together for some tea and crumpets and discuss the possibilities :D -
The Simplify command works on the entire path instead of selective areas of the path. Also, I have found Astute's brush seems to be more accurate (at least for me) than Simplify (and if you hold down Option/Alt, it will ignore the tolerance setting and just delete the point). Additionally, they have a Smart Delete which will delete the selected anchor point while adjusting the path to try and maintain it's shape. Think of the effort Affinity puts into Designer and you will understand why Astute's plug-ins are so well liked.

As a Lightroom user, I can't say that I consider the app bloated. Yes, there are things I don't use but I'm sure there are others that do make use of them. Look at what happened with the latest update to LR CC where Adobe simplified the import process and about 1,000 comments were made complaining about how the features stripped out were missed. As far as the UI, I don't give a damn if it looks like OSX or not. At some point, if Affinity does decide to go cross platform, the more generic the apps UI's are designed, the easier it will be to port. Can you really see a Windows app following OSX guidelines for UI?

PPI, not DPI , and numerical entries

Actually, when speaking of scanning, I have heard it referred to as SPI which is samples per inch :) -
Illustrator offers us the choice of black on gray or white on black. I have mine set just bright enough to have black on gray which is easier on my eyes (and easier to read as well). Please offer us the choice.

Interesting idea but the user should be able to assign the colors of their choice

Prefs Drop Down Menu Issue
JimGoshorn replied to JimGoshorn's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Using 10.9.5. I avoided Yosemite because of reported issues with Adobe software so I am hoping that El Capitain will prove safe -
I clicked on the drop down menu for the preferences dialog and now it will not go away. It stays displayed even if I close prefs and open it again. I had to quit AD and open it again to get rid of the drop down.

When you are learning a new piece of software, there is a lot of experimentation required. Read the help file, watch the videos and try working with the tool which was the subject of the video. If you get stumped, just post a question and one of us will probably be able to give you an answer. Don't get intimidated and remember that the rest of us started right where you are now.

It's on their feature roadmap already: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/10075-affinity-photo-feature-roadmap/

Groups also can be assigned an fx so, for example, if you have a few objects that you want to assign the same amount of blur to, you can group them and assign the gaussian blur to the group. You can also assign an fx to a layer so you could have a group with one fx and the layer containing the group with another. There are many possibilities and you just need to play around with layers and groups.

So far it's just the three of us. I guess they haven't attracted enough users who used Photoshop's Apply Image :(
