Choosing Proof Profiles for Soft Proofing

Recommended Posts

Simple question.

Are there any guidelines for interpreting the list of proof profiles in Photo and Designer into typical paper types? Like a dummy’s guide.

For example, when you go to a print shop or manufacturer they do not describe the paper or card by the descriptors used for the proof profiles.

I typically print on what the print shop calls ‘100lb c/s2 gloss white card stock’. What is that equivalent to in the proof profiles?

In most cases the Print Shop would tell you the name of the name of the Profile, if it's a standard ICC one.

In case of a custom one, the Print Shop would normally provide you with a ICC profile which you would add to your OS and then this would appear in the Soft Proof adjustment list in Affinity.  I'm not aware of a method to translate the information you've posted into an ICC profile or if it's a standard one.

That isn't enough info for a profile. Those are all just properties of the card stock. (Caliper is a measure of paper thickness.)
