I’ve just bought a Wacom Intuos to expand my drawing capabilities but I’m not really getting the hang of it. I want to use the pen to paint and sketch and would like to be able to quickly adjust colors as I paint. Does anyone have any really good tips to do this? Or alternatively, any recommendations for video tutorials using Intuos pens with Affinity Photo? Many thanks.

@firstdefenceThank you for your suggestion. I found the issue wasn't just 2 cards after all. I have 24 artboards in the file and half of them wouldn't print with the blend layer. I broke them down into two files of twelve and one file printed ok and the other had 8/12 cards that wouldn't print with the blend mode. I then took those 8 cards and divided them into two fours and half of those wouldn't print with blend mode. So finally I printed the last two and they were OK. So there seems to be something wrong with how many artboards modified by the blend layer will print accurately using slices. It seems to be half of them. I found this issue in both Designer and Photo.

I have 24 playing cards set up as artboards in a file. Each is set up the same. I have added a soft light blend layer to the top layer in each artboard to make the cards brighter. I am printing them to a pdf with presets as slices. Bizarrely half of the cards print as if there was no blend layer. The other half prints with the brighter finish. I took the experiment further by adding extreme blend layers such as negative and half of the cards print as if the layer had been deleted or is invisible. I delete the layer and copy it from another card that is working, and I have the same problem. Does anyone know what I am missing? Is it a quirk of the software or is there a setting that I've accidentally changed on just these cards? Any help would be appreciated. The only solution I can think of is to completely rebuild the cards from scratch, which would take ages.

I need to create banners for a web site and I am following the specification which is 160 x 600 @72dpi. My understanding is this is the pixel size (160 pixels x 600 pixels) so that must mean the specification for dpi is irrelevant? Nonetheless I attach the PNG I created using these dimensions by exporting from Designer and I'm concerned it seems blurred. Do you think this will look fine on a computer screen? Any assistance appreciated because I think I'm overthinking this.

It looks like you need a proof reader. 😀 I raised the original question and I specifically needed to export to Word and I never managed to do that. Editing in pdf is not effective for me. What I needed was not just a proof read but advice of laying the page out and as they don’t have Affinity they wanted to show me in Word. But that was a while ago. Thank you @ubercool I agree with your comments.

@h_dthanks. @Callum thanks too. I tried it again and it’s working now. The slice export wasn’t the right size yesterday. Weird but I’m so relieved it works. Phew that saves me a ton of work. @h_d yes, I’m printing playing cards and they want png or jpg format. I think bigger manufacturers want pdf as you suggest. By the way, is there a way to set the color of the bleed area? Mine comes out white which isn’t what I want.

I have 24 artboards of 2.5" x 3.5" (playing card size). When I use 'Export Persona' and create slices they print as PNG images at 2.5" x 3.5", which is good. Now I want to send them to a printer and I want to add 0.125" bleed around the entire perimeter. I added this bleed in Document Setup under the File tab in Designer. Under Export Persona for the PNG settings I have clicked the box 'include bleed'. When I export the slice the image is still 2.5" x 3.5" but I was hoping it would add an area for bleed making the image 2.75" x 3.75". What am I doing wrong? Many thanks for your help.

Printing to PDF
Merlin replied to Merlin's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes, it’s because I wanted to print multiple art boards to one sheet, and export prints each artboard on a single sheet. Nonetheless, I found a work around by temporarily rasterizing my art boards before printing. -
Neither Publisher nor Photo will print my work as a pdf using ‘Microsoft to PDF’ driver. The blue line stops at about 60% and stays there forever. The only way out is to cancel the print. I’ve never had this problem before. I’ve tried rebooting the computer too. I’ve spent hours trying to print some important files for a deadline and nothing works. Does anyone have any ideas please? Many thanks!

Thanks for the comments. I note Microsoft Publisher can export to Word, but I guess that makes sense. I have a complex document of images and text created in Affinity Publisher and need to send for a professional proof read. The suggestions here are all I could think of too but effectively undoes the work I have done in AP.

Publisher crashes when I move image out of frame - repeatable
Merlin replied to Merlin's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
I’d have to check. I’ve changed the way I work to avoid the problem because it is more productive for me to avoid the problem than keep repeating it. The issue occurred when I dragged images into a sub layer of the frame in the layer panel. I avoided the issue by cutting and pasting the image into the sub layer of the frame in the layer panel. -
Thank you Garry. To clarify, the Artboard was created in Designer as a rectangle playing card template for playing cards and does not have rounded corners because the machines cut the rounded corners when printing playing cards. I exported the Artboard as an image for Publisher, so it is actually a PNG image not an Artboard. i included the rounded rectangle feature to round the corners of the image to make it look like a playing card in my document. But I thank you for your comments. I will keep experimenting. I have noticed the appearance of the little grey frame in the layers panel when things are done correctly but I wonder if the software is a little unforgiving if someone has a specific need that isn’t exactly what the programmers expect. Although I always use help before posting on here I sometimes don’t understand what help is saying.

@GarryP Thanks Garry. I think you've found an example of when the cross appears but it is not what I have done in my file. I think the cross appears if you have more than one layer stacked in the frame. For example if you have four images at the same level in the frame no cross appears. If you have a shape layer then the cross does appear. The cross does not print, so I am wondering what its function is. To warn you are using a frame?
-
@Dan CPlease find attached an example. The left and centre images have a frame cross, and the right does not, but they are all in frames. The difference is the left and centre images are multiple individual images in a group layer, in a frame; but the right one is four images assigned directly to a frame layer. So my question is, is the intentional and what does it mean? Is it a warning or just informational?

Publisher crashes when I move image out of frame - repeatable
Merlin replied to Merlin's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
The group is 3 images. I was having multiple problems with the same action. What I wanted to do was increase the size of the frame to house 6 images but when I dragged the frame larger the software crashed. So I decided to remove the image from the frame, delete it and create a new one. The video shows the crash. I bypassed the problem by cutting the group and pasting it out of the frame instead of dragging it. Then I was able to continue working.
