Problems downloading 1.7.2 from the App Store?

Recommended Posts

I am having difficulty updating Affinity Photo to v/1.7.2 from the App Store. After selecting "Update" I see a spinning wheel, but no progress dialog or other indicator. I using MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3. Anyone else having issues?

p.s. Note to Self: Never, ever purchase from the crAPP store :-)

Thanks for the non-responsive reply.

I did purchase AP from the APP store, my p.s. was a comment on my dissatisfaction with the APP Store's malfunction during my attempt to update my legally purchased copy of AP from the app store.

If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.

If this also fails, as long as the app is showing in the App Store as being purchased you can remove the app from your system. When you reopen the App Store it will detect the app isn't installed and will give the option to install, this will install the latest 1.7.2 version.

I love these ever-friendly guys with their ever-same answers …

My (withdrawn) comment simply stated, that you can‘t expect an update from the AppStore, if you didn‘t purchase the app there. Now you clarified your post and told us, that the AppStore is a CrapStore in your eyes. That is the information, we all have been waiting for. Thank you for that!

Perhaps you should have simply tried to reload the AppStore page via menu.

That is not necessarily true because System Preferences > App Store has to be configured appropriately for that to happen. For example, this is how I currently have the top section of my App Store preferences set in High Sierra:

Because I have not ticked "Install app updates" I get a notification that they are available (whether the app or MAS is running at the time or not) but they are not installed until I open the Mac App Store app to the Updates tab & click either the individual "Update" buttons or the "Update All" button if more than one is available. This configuration allows me to decide when (or if) I want to install updates.

Also, I have to be signed into the store with the appropriate Apple ID (the one I used when I bought the app from MAS) for this to work. The App Store preference window shows the current Apple ID associated with my purchases.
