Alfred Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 ‘Posterize’ and ‘Gradient Map’ should get you well on the way to a result like that. Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)
Josie Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 How do I posterize and use the gradient map to make it look like that with using images that I find using the iPad? Quote
Alfred Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Starting with a Posterize adjustment gives you this choice of presets: If you choose the ‘Harsh’ preset with the default parameters and opt to add a Gradient Map adjustment you get this: As applied, the ‘Ultra Violet’ preset just gives you shades of violet (surprise, surprise!) but you can tweak the gradient map as much as you like. It’s well worthwhile opening a sample image in Affinity Photo and spending some time going through all the adjustments and filters to see what they do. Josie Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Is this how the cat is supposed to look with the posterized tool and the gradient map? otherwise how do I make the cat look exactly like the one in the photo? Colors and everything. coloredcat.png.afphoto Quote

You aren’t going to get a result exactly like that by applying adjustment layers to a photo of a real cat. Josie Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 So how do I do abstract photos similar to that? Quote
Alfred Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Start with the ‘Posterize’ and ‘Gradient Map’ steps, and then add some coloured shapes (like the heart and stars on the face, or the swirls at bottom right). Josie Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Do I do the posterize first and then the gradient map? Also how would I incorporate shapes into the image to make it look similar to the picture? Quote

Doesn't matter, you can use blend modes to get interesting affects and use the shape tool to create the shapes and use blends modes on those too. Quote
