This is a recurring problem. If you create an ellipse it is easy to adjust its proportion using the handles that fall on the minor axis. However once you have applied another action to the ellipse the bounding box may have a different orientation to the ellipse thus making it difficult to change the proportion in a controlled way.

A is an ellipse sitting on the red minor axis.

B is a copy of this ellipse but was changed using 'Expand stroke' to create a torus. I now want to change proportion of the torus along the red minor axis but can't because the bounding box is now at a different orientation. Moving these handle simply distorts the ellipse. This is a nuisance.

Is there a way to do this or is am I  going to add to the 'Wish List"?

Basically what I am asking is the a means to be able to switch to the bounding that is always orientated to the original ellipse on which the object was based.

Hi Jack, since you know the rotation of the original ellipse, maybe you can rotate your torus back, reset the selection box on the result of this rotation, transform the shape along the now horizontal axis, and then set the original rotation again … have not tested this extensively, but it might work …

Yes, an easy way to do this would be great …  :)

Hi Alex,

I'm not sure I know what you mean. Can you be more specific?

Ok Alex I didn't know what the 'Reset Selection Box' was for. This has opened up a great deal for me. Thanks.
