Limitations to Macros

Recommended Posts

I came *this* close to jumping ship from Photoshop to Affinity Photo after trialling it, but at least one thing has stopped me changing: macros.

The two main things I use Actions for in PS are 1) resizing an image, changing to a different colour space, then saving and closing the file

2) Resizing, changing to a text tool, stopping the action to add the text, flattening layers, saving and closing

I'm happy to be corrected, but it looks like Affinity macros can't perform important steps like adding text or saving files.

Any plans to add additional functionality?

You would be surprised at what you can accomplish with a combination of a batch job (to handle the input and output) and a macro or two to do the editing. Admittedly Affinity macros could be improved, but they can do many useful things.

If that’s the case, how would I do the no. 2 action I described?

I think you are edging towards the territory of scripting which indeed would be very useful.

However, I don't think that the developers have uttered their last word when it comes to macros either.

With the actual macro implementation during macro recording you can't usually add text or save files, thus you would have to use a sort of workaround(s). Namely use the batch processing option for resizing, there adding a macro which pastes text (this is macro action is recordable) and let the batch process also do save the made modifications.
