Hi,

I use Affinity for my final editing for my astro images. How do I remove this annoying bright white ring around the outside of the moon ? FYI this is a stack of 11 images, but I use other software to stack.

There are several ways to do that, using the healing tools, or fine black background color brushing over, or making a rounded arc selection and fade the background in via masking etc. - Or maybe more easy use the donut tool, adjust it to a small arc shape (you can also convert to curves for more accurate adjustment) and then color over with the background black. So something like this here ...

If you turn off all of the adjustments is the white ring still evident?

  1. If not make a mask so as not to include the edge in the adjustments.
  2. If it is there make a mask to dial down the brightness with another adjustment layer.

Use the Flood Select Tool to select all the black (don't worry if you select some of the darker left-hand side of the moon)

Select > Grow / Shrink   (grow by 1.5px)

Select > Feather   (1.5px)

Select > Outline   (Alignment: inside - 2px)

Use "black" paint brush and brush on the white parts you want to cover

You can switch of the selection to make this easier to see   (View > Show Pixel Selection)
