Typography Problems - Small Caps

I imported a PDF file which has Adobe Caslon Pro embedded and subsetted in it.

Text in table headers is in Small Caps in the source PDF file.

Yes, the file views correctly in Adobe Acrobat X and Preview and prints correctly on a Hewlett-Packard printer.

However, inside Publisher Beta 1.7.0.312 - The font does not display as small caps. Further, kerning is off with characters overlapping. Adobe Caslon Pro is installed on the computer I running Publisher on.

It will be because of how Nisus Writer Pro encoded the fonts in the PDF.

Try opening the attached PDF. It should come in with the small caps with good spacing.

This PDF does not have the actual small cap glyphs. These are faked small caps.
For example the small A is simply the capital letter "A" glyph at a smaller point size.

In the original PDF above the small A is actually the "Asmall" glyph at the same point size (8.5pt) as the leading capital (8.5pt).
All the small cap characters in Adobe Caslon Pro are named Asmall, Bsmall, Csmall, etc.
Those are the glyphs in the PDF.

Many other apps can do this right.
APub simply is not connecting the dots correctly. Yet.

In my version of ACaslonPro they are a.sc...etc.

And yep, proper sc does not come into APub correctly.

I did not realize I was looking at a really old version - v1.009.(2000-09-12)
But apparently this is the version used in the PDF.
The AFF 11 v2.015.(2007-08-20) has the SC glyphs named like you describe above.

Been wanting DTL OTMaster - I'm jealous.

Ah, yes. I have AFF11.

DTL OTMaster. There is a free version on the DTL website. It lags behind the commercial version and is crippled in what it can do. But there is full viewing capabilities. There are a couple free tools Frank has on the website.

Thanks. I have the free one. Crashes a lot.
Have fantasies about the full version where I can change just one thing.
Can to the same with TTX, but it is a lot more work.
