Provide way to "migrate" to Windows 10 Store edition

Recommended Posts

It would be great if you were able to provide a one-time code, even for a small "admin" fee (or just a reasonable discount), to allow moving to the Windows 10 Store version of an app purchased before this option was available. I would like to have the advantage of the streamlined install and auto-updates happening in the background but would not pay for the product again, even at its low cost.

Just to be sure you know, there are disadvantages to the Windows Store version, too.

For example,

  1. The Windows Store apps operate in a sandboxed mode, where you cannot easily interact with them from other applications. That makes it impossible without extra work on your part to perform an "Edit in ..." operation from another application (such as a DAM, Digital Asset Manager) when you're organizing photos and want to edit one of them in Photo.
  2. Updates will probably be available somewhat sooner via the Affinity Store than via the Windows Store, but probably this is only a few days difference.
  3. Sharing between family members or on different PCs is harder, as you need to use the same Windows Store signin (ID) to access the application for install.

Do you mean like brother and his children, grandfather and all his grandchildren? Is it not a conflict with the license agreement? So, as far as I know, these are installations on "my" PCs where I am an administrator.

Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.4.0.2301

It's not a conflict for you to install on family members' PCs as long as you own the PCs.

If all the PCs are all yours, and all signed in to the Windows Store with the same Windows ID then item 3 in my list wouldn't be a problem for you, as that's not a family situation.

Then it is clear and obvious, that you are installing on them under your ID. So why should it be a problem you mention in item 3?

I can own two PCs, and have one of them using my Windows ID and the other using my wife's Windows ID.

As I own them, I can install the Affinity products on both of them. But as they use different Windows IDs it will be more complex to do that via the Windows Store than it would be to purchase directly from Affinity, transfer the files manually and run the installation outside the Windows Store.
