Flattened Images When Opened With Affinity

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if this has already been asked and answered. I made a search but I couldn't find it.

I often buy vectors from Depositphotos. Sometimes, when I open those images, all the elements are messed, but I can manage them.

Some other times, instead, the images look like flattened, therefore I cannot delete unwanted parts. (I use Affinity Designer to export the parts I need as png and work on them on photoshop.)

I attach a screenshot of one of those images. When I expand the layers, I get those layers with a "curve" icon attached to them, but I cannot find a way to select each elements. Can you please help? I know it must be a very easy way to do it...

Thank you

Hi myfairies and Welcome to the Forums,

The curve will be a clipping layer and shouldn't really cause any issues.  If you can't select seperate parts you could go straight to the Export Persona and create a slice over the object you want and export it out as a PNG file.

I suspect it's just how this file has been put together, if you'd like to upload it to our Dropbox i'll be happy to see if Design is doing anything wrong.  Dropbox link is here

stoker, thank you for your help and the warm welcome. it's very kind of you but the Depositphotos license doesn't allow me to share the file. I don't want to get in trouble with it, being on a public forum I could lose my account and all the hundreds of images already paid for but not downloaded yet :(

The strange is this has happened twice today while I never had this problems before but others (like each piece of an item in a different group and with compositions having hundreds of items this is very annoying...)

do you mind explainign what you mean by "create a slice"? I checked the export window by I cannot find anything like that. In any case, one of the images I bought today has a texture over it and I wanted to get rid of that and of the text so I suppose the slice method wouldn't help me in this particular case.

I rebooted the pc, bought a third image and the problem is still there. I opened a few images I had bought and exported in png previously adn they look strange too.

This is the last image I bought https://depositphotos.com/105858066/stock-illustration-realistic-shards-of-transparent-broken.html

I cannot rid of the squared background. Every items (I mean any icon representing an image)  has attached a second icon called curves as the other two I bought today. This is odd because usually the icons are single, and called curves, not image which has attached a curve. Could the view and something else have been messed? Maybe yesterday i touched something which I shouldn't have touched?

There is because what you see is what the designer uploaded on the site. He created that background to show you the transparency and it's meant to be deleted but I couldn't do it without also deleting parts of the image I wanted :(

I hear other designers have problems with Affinity but I'm sure there's a way to overrid these problems.

For the first example I've been told there's a clipping mask which needs to be released, but I cannot find a way with affinity (another designer using illustrator told me about the clipping mask and showed me that after releasing it in Illustrator you get all the separated layers). But I couldn't find a way to delete it with Affinity

If you see it in layers palette you should be able to delete, hide or move to different location in layers stack.

There is also a "Release" option if you right-click on a layer, which for mask layers 'un-nests' the mask layer from its parent object.

(Curiously, in the Mac Affinity apps in the Layers panel popup context menu that option shows it has a CMD-R keyboard shortcut, but that is the default for show/hide rulers, does not show up anywhere in the keyboard shortcuts preferences, & doesn't work as a 'release' keyboard shortcut.)
