casterle
I'm trying to understand how to best use the Refile Selection dialog. I'm watching one a tutorial in which the author, with the Matte brush selected, moves along the edge refining by pressing the Modifier key to reduce background spill areas. He doesn't explain what this does - there are already Foreground and Background brushes so how is this different? Bonus question: What does the term Matte mean in this context? The modifier keys (there are several) are shortcuts to change the selection brush mode 'on-the-fly' -- IOW, so you don't have to click in the refine window to change modes. The Status bar at the bottom of the window is dynamic like it is for other functions, & shows what each shortcut does, depending on the current brush mode. This is what it looks like on a Mac with the Matte mode selected: I don't know if you are using a Mac or Windows PC, but if it is a Mac & you are not familiar with those symbols, they are the CTRL, Alt/Option, & CMD keys, respectively. Note that the shortcuts will change depending on the brush mode selected in the refine window. 2 hours ago, casterle said: Bonus question: What does the term Matte mean in this context? The edge or border, more or less, sort of like a matte border on a framed picture. You should write a book . Watching the status bar as I switch between brushes, I see one of the things that drives me a bit batty in AP. I can't imagine who thought Drag + RightMouse was a good choice when Drag + Shift was available. Three of the four buttons require a Drag + RightMouse.
