AP: Style or Macro editors?

Recommended Posts

macro's and object styles are packaged in .propcol files so editing/looking at them would not be possible as far as I am aware.

Yes, they're binary files; that's why I was asking for an editor :)

Are you Mac or windows? I'm sure there are hex editors for both. Not sure what you'd gain from it though?

Windows. And I've got a hex editor but, as you point out, looking at the hex data isn't of much value.

What I'm looking for is a way to see what steps and values are recorded in a style I have created. It's not working as expected and I have no way of knowing because I can't see what AP put in the style!

Even a small utility that decodes and dumps the style would be very useful.

It's not working as expected and I suspect that it contains kerning info because of the way it affects other text I apply it to. But I have no way of knowing because I can't see what AP put in the style!

Perhaps:

1. Create a Text Frame with a simple font and font size.

2. Assign your style to it.

3. Add some text.

4. Examine the Character panel.

That's a good suggestion but I fumbled away the style in question - when I went to save another style I ended up with only one style in the list - I think I overwrote the original somehow. I recreated it and now it is working fine. I'm just learning about styles so I most likely missed a step in the tutorial.
