Selections, Color Replacement brush

Recommended Posts

I’m working with these two tools for the first time in Photo and sometimes the brush appears to stop working. I can’t tell whether a memory buffer gets full or not; sometimes when I choose another tool, then go back, painting resumes, sometimes when I change color, painting stops.

I can’t tell whether I’m making a beginner mistake, or Photo needs time to catch up. Any thoughts?

Edit: it almost seems as though part of my layer is being protected, tho I don’t see anything in the replace color brush about protecting anything. Marching ants are  turned on, the “inside” of the selection appears set to receive paint and I see nothing resulting from painting inside that selection. I sense that I’m working with some powerful features, but I’m bamboozled as to how I got here.

It almost feels like I’ve set various tools in various personas to various settings and that they are working together (could be great) but I can’t seem to be able to know what’s happening with the selections, their inversions, their alpha-protected areas and sensitive areas.

I don’t want to scrap it and start over bcs it seems like a good learning opportunity, yet feeling pretty stumped.

Thank you!

Hi VectorCat :)

Sorry to hear you're having trouble! Could you please provide a screen recording of this issue for me so we can look into it for you?

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Hi Vectorcat, colour replacement appears to stop working when the initial colour being repainted changes slightly. Lifting off and selecting another spot selects a new colour to change and so painting appears to commence again. I think the tolerance and contiguous settings determine how much change in colour is accepted before the 'selected' colour being changed is no longer recognised as the initial selection.

You can see the start stop paint change action because initial blue changes shade. Changing tolerance make recolour less effected by slight colour shading in the blue. Lifting off and restarting selects the new blue shade as the colour to be changed. Possibly, this is what you are experiencing?
