Dave s Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I don't know what the rest think but to my mind the more updates Publisher get, the more like PagePlus it becomes. This is not a bad thing as I don't think there was anything wrong with PP. It makes me wonder though what it's all about. Is it just an attempt by Serif to shake off the 'Hobbyist' image that the Plus series has acquired over the years? Maybe, I don't know, but keep it up Serif and eventually we'll end up with a product we all like but with a different name. Sorry if that sounds cynical. Quote
Steps Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I think a least the technical base got a big overhaul with multi platform support and so on. So it is not just the name. Dave s Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 What do you mean by the technical base? I know it's been written in an up-to-date language, but what else? Quote
Steps Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Just that. Completely rewritten under the hood to enable usage of new technologies. Quote Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Dave s Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 I know it now caters for Mac and iPad, (interestingly not Android or Linux) and that's obviously a good thing if you use those technologies, but 'multi platform' might be too broad a term to use as it has only been expanded to include Apple. However, my point is I don't see any material difference as a Windows user in the look and feel or the feature capabilities. In fact there are fewer features in Publisher than in PP, but I expect that will change during development. Quote
Steps Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Yes. I think they rewrite their products to include Apple. That seems to be the main point. For you and me as Windows user I expect no substantial changes. I also miss an Android app. Quote Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). As far as I’m aware, the ‘front end’ code for the Windows versions is written in C++ (i.e. the same language as used for the old ‘Plus’ range of applications). Dave s Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 Yes I agree, Alfred, platform independence is a good thing. Where would we be without PDF? Alfred 1 Quote
