Chrisw5 Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 Some more issues I've come across on 162, on Windows 10. When drawing a text box on a new page, I set the cursor cross at the top left intersection of the margins. That used to produce a green vertical guideline, and a horizontal red one. The red one no longer appears. As I draw it out, the right hand green one appears, and the bottom red one, but never the top red one. I successfully exported a pdf to a memory stick. Later I exported another pdf, but the stick was no longer plugged in, and that crashed Publisher - froze completely, and I had to shut it down. Plugging the stick back in solved the problem. In a previous version I have successfully dragged page thumbnails in the pages column to a new position. I can't make that work in 162. The cursor changes to the symbol with a dotted rectangle, and the blue line appears beside the next page above, and disappears when I go above the visible area, but the thumbnails do not scroll, and I cannot navigate to the point where I want to drop the page. Plus one that I don't know whether it's a bug or I misunderstand how it works. I tried to split my pages into two sections - the first one with just two pages, and the second one with all the rest. I expected the page numbering in the thumbnail column to change to 1,2, then start again at 1 ( which is what I set in the parameters), but it didn't. Should it ?

I expect only 2 lines, and on .174 I get them: A vertical green line over the left margin, and a red horizontal line over the top margin. As far as I know there are only ever two, as they're related to the cursor position, and it's only in one place. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Chrisw5 Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Walt, thanks. I need my system to keep working for a few more days without problems, and in view of the hassle I had getting 162 to work, I'm avoiding it !
Chrisw5 Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Walt, I didn't make myself clear. I often draw a whole page box, and the other two lines appear when I complete the page. Looks like 174 has solved the problem. Maybe I should go for it !
walt.farrell Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 I'm not sure about "the other two lines" part of your comment, though. If I start at the upper left corner I have the red and the green line. If I drag straight right the green vertical line disappears until I get to the right edge. Then if I drag straight down the red horizontal line disappears until I get to the bottom. I only ever have 1 or 2 lines, never 4, but that's exactly what I expect -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Chrisw5 Posted November 18, 2018 Author Posted November 18, 2018 Walt, we're talking about exactly the same thing, it's just the way I'm describing it. The only difference between what you get, and what I'm currently getting, is the top horizontal red line when you start, which has stopped working for some reason, making it more difficult to get the cross in exactly the right place. walt.farrell 1
Chrisw5 Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 I had to bite the bullet, and update to .174, as I was having a problem printing embedded pdfs, which it cured. However, it has made no difference to the other two problems with guidelines, and changing page order. When I first went into the updated programme, I did get the red line at the top, but now I don't - whichever tool I use.
Chris_K Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Hi Chrisw5 Glad you've managed to sort most of this out. I have managed to replicate the app locking up after saving to a usb stick and removing it so i shall make sure that it's logged Thanks Serif Europe Ltd - Check the latest news at www.affinity.serif.com
Chrisw5 Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 Thanks for the response, but I've only sorted out one of the problems. The one that's causing me real problems is the inability to move a thumbnail more than one page at a time, because the list won't scroll. I have two Windows 10 PCs both running .174, and it doesn't work on either. My colleague has .174 on his Windows 10 PC, and it works fine. Any suggestions ?
