So here's my question.

The inpaint tool can be spotty if you're trying to do something accurate. For instance, attached is an image of a new doc I'm working on. I want to remove half of the subject, but if I use the inpaint tool I can't get too "exact" if you know what I mean. Is there a virtual ruler or something I could use?

Nevermind, I found the solution. Sorry, such a noob.

What was the solution?  It's rare for there to be only one way of fixing things like this - it's good to share!

The rectangular marquee lets you inpaint without going past the box lines.

I don't know if this makes sense.

It makes perfect sense - thanks!  But does anyone know a way of rotating the selection marquees - not everything that needs selecting is on a horizontal or vertical.

For a rotated rectangular selection, create a rectangle with the Rectangle Tool, rotate it and then convert the rotated rectangle (via the ‘Selection’ button on the Context toolbar, I think — I don’t have APh in front of me to check) to a ‘marching ants’ selection.

If you are talking about Photo, you enter Quick Mask mode (Q), select the Move Tool and rotate and adjust the selection marquee how you want.

That's exactly what I was looking for - thanks!

Thanks for that! It's more involved than the Quick Mask approach, but it can be used with any of the shapes.
