Jaffa Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I have been watching a great number of times the 'Live Filter Layers' in the Vimeo Official Series of video tutorials on Affinity Photo. It is the sixth video in the series and features an image of a castle 1min 46 secs into the video. James Ritson, shows the Background Layer with a child layer of Unsharp Mask (ie, as a Live Filter Layer). He goes to Layer in the top menu and chooses Invert and the icon changes to show it has had the effect. However, this does not work on my AP program. The icon stays as it is, and responds accordingly. The Unsharp Layer, of course, is the only one selected - so that is not the problem. Experiment shows me that if a Live Filter Layer is on its own it does invert properly. I can do a workaround by making the Unsharp Mask a layer in its own right (ie, not a child layer), then Inverting, then making it a child layer. I really would like to replicate what James does in the video, as I am teaching others. Not a good look when the Tutor cannot make something work! firstdefence Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Which video and what filter is being used Jaffa? I'm not sure how inverting a Live filter would work, to my mind that would be the same as applying or unapplying a filter? As he said, it is the Live Filter Layers video (https://vimeo.com/133428170) & the filter is the Unsharp Mask live filter. @Jaffa, the video is 3 years old, so James Ritson is using an older version of Affinity Photo. When I duplicate the steps starting at the 2:30 mark or so using the current Mac version of the app (1.6.7), the thumbnail of the filter layer does not change when it is inverted -- it remains a white rectangle with the hourglass-shaped badge -- but in all other respects everything works as in the video. I assume the current Windows version does the same thing, but you will have to get confirmation about that from another Windows user. If it is still not working for you, whether or not the thumbnail's appearance changes, make sure you are choosing Invert from the Layers menu & not Invert Pixel Selection from the Select menu, & that you have not made a "marching ants" selection. Jaffa Posted June 19, 2018 Author Posted June 19, 2018 Many thanks RC-R and haakoo, you have set my mind at rest. It is the result that counts and not the icon, though I do hope the people at Nottingham fix this small but misleading defect in the next update.
