fabioromeo Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 I like to sketch before vectoring, but the pixel persona gives me horrible, really jagged and irregular lines compared to Photoshop (as you can see in the attached picture). Also, the pressure support seems quite sketchy in Designer.. Is there a way to make it better? I'm using a Intuos Pro medium with the latest drivers and latest Windows 10. Quote
firstdefence Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Have you tried using or turning on the stabiliser option in Affinity Designer should be part of the brush context menu along the top. fabioromeo Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 Just tried it, and hated it. While the quality of the lines improved a little, the brush felt sticky, and doing quick, short brushes was impossible. Quote
gdenby Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Hi, fabioromeo, I'm using a different system and tablet (see sig), But while I do get a bit of jitter, it is partially due to me having fairly severe arthritis, and my right thumb is giving me grief today. Any rate, quick scribbles, no stabilizer. I've been working w. the stabilizer setting some recently, and the length/window settings need to be adjusted for the average length of stroke. fabioromeo Posted June 10, 2018 Author Posted June 10, 2018 Hi gdenbi, could you share your brushes settings? Maybe there's something there that I'm missing. firstdefence, if you could do it too I'd be thankful. Quote
Rocketdrive Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 The stabilizer is a pain for quick strokes like handwriting or quick sketching . But super useful for looong, smooth strokes like the back of a whale I just tried some of the stock brushes with a Cintiq 27 and agree, slow and medium speed strokes come out a little jaggy. I didn't actually notice until now, since I jumped right into custom DAUB brushes, where the effect seems less pronounced. But overall yes, this deserves to be a lot better. And also yes, Photoshop does a better job. However, when sketching and painting this isn't necessarily much of an issue, especially with messier brushes and/or faster strokes. Of course it really depends on Your style. So while I am looking forward for the brush engine to become better, I also try to go as far as possible with the current tools. Quote

One thing that is important is that the brush spacing be sufficiently small that the shape dabs blend smoothly. Also, in the dynamics panel, different profile curves can make a big difference on how pressure and speed, etc. influence the stroke. If I zoom to 600 ~ 800%, I can usually still see aliasing artifacts.
