trksnoos
I it would be great to have a parametric replicator over or within shape or along shape using any layer as source. we would be able to change size and color of the included element by random or progressive scale etc.... Exemple of use Present Paper... or massive banners. Let me know if you have any easy way to achieve this. Sebast and lepr

They are not a complete replacement especially in regard to changing pattern spacing. But you can get quite far with it already d. In this case I support your suggestion for a more sophisticated pattern creation function d. Tom Schülke
I support this too.. I just have been in a lecture of some Colleques of my company, still learning indesign.. while we only scratched the surface, we looked inside the pattern tool and i have to say.. this one is far superior above the symbols aproach.. dont get me wrong.. symbols are great for other reasons.. But making patterns as filings and also just to save them and reuse them when you want , and the way you construct them is realy very intelligent and smart.. i am sure.. affinity could throw out some of its creative magic and be able to make something even better... Guest
A few months back I found Patternodes https://www.lostminds.com/patternodes2/ which is a parametric/flow design tool specifically for creating patterns. It has a node-based interface similar to Quartz Composer and exports to a variety of formats. While there's a certain logic in mirroring features found in other tools (especially in regards to user adoption), I think there's a real opportunity now to look at what our future tools could be given that many designers and artists are no longer scared of code-based and parametric tools. Tools like Grasshopper http://www.grasshopper3d.com/ and Houdini https://www.sidefx.com/products/houdini-fx/ are enabling designers and artists to bring to life ideas that would have been unimaginable a few years ago. Currently there seems to be an opportunity for a 'code-based'/parametric 2D design tool to really disrupt things and set the standard for the future. Symbols are by no way a perfect replacement for a true pattern tool and I am looking forward to Affinity's implementation (some day). But symbols can work for basic tasks d. Tom Schülke
Well i like the aproach of the paterntool mentioned above too, but i think illustrators approach still is more artist friendly.. just because you can draw whatever pattern you wish inside your pattern rectangle and instantly see the whole repettitive pattern change. this aproach is still much more artistfriendly you while the aproach above maybe can produce some other stuff, that illustrator cant.. so mayby a synthesis of all the two ? trksnoos
