Is there currently a way to produce a symmetrical curve starting with a straight line?
The screen shot is a curve I produced from a straight line but I had to move the line slightly to create a set of curve node handles.
I then created the two guide lines and moved the node handles onto the vertical curve whilst aligning the curve with the intersection of the guide lines.

My point is that it would be useful to be able to 'Select' the node handles together and move them simultaneously to maintain symetry.

I would compare this to using cmd + alt whilst dragging an object's envelope handles for resizing about its centre. Something similar could be useful for manipulating curve handles in a similar way.

My screen shot failed to load!

If I wanted a rotationally symmetrical curve, I wouldn’t bother creating guides. I would simply create half of the curve, duplicate it, rotate one of the curves and then join the two together.

For more complex scenarios, especially if you want to be able to modify the curve while retaining its symmetry, you can use symbols.

Doing half a curve is the way I would normally do it.

What do you mean by using symbols?

Like this: Curve nodes symbols.afdesign

Basically, draw half the curve & make it a symbol. Then duplicate it, rotate & snap the dup to the end of the original. Now, if you select either instance of the symbol with the Node Tool, any changes you make on it will be reflected on the other one. For easier positioning later with the Move Tool, you can group the 2 instances of the symbol so they move, resize, skew, or rotate as one.

Thanks.

I think that this may have possibilities for me in other areas.
