AmpedAndy Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 I'm working on updating a new logo graphic. I want to make the graphic a one color silhouette. The problem is, in the process of editing and tweaking, there's lots of left-over junk from various edits. The graphic looks fine if it's on a white background because you can't see the leftovers. However, if it gets placed on a dark background, there's a halo effect from previous edits. Tolling around to remove each and every last non-black pixel with the eraser is possible, but pretty darn time-consuming. I've tried all the options I can think of, and searched the forum like crazy for the solution. What do you suggest? Quote iMac 21.5" Mid 2011 2.5 GHz i5
Staff DWright Posted January 30, 2018 Staff Posted January 30, 2018 Are you using Affinity Designer or Photo Quote
AmpedAndy Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 Affinity Designer, but I have both. Quote iMac 21.5" Mid 2011 2.5 GHz i5
Staff DWright Posted January 30, 2018 Staff Posted January 30, 2018 If you open the image in Affinity Photo your can use the Erase White Paper filter from the Filters>Colours menu to remove all of the white from the image Quote
AmpedAndy Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 That takes care of most of it, but not entirely. There are still remnants of white-ish pixels Quote iMac 21.5" Mid 2011 2.5 GHz i5
Staff MEB Posted January 30, 2018 Staff Posted January 30, 2018 Hi AmpedAndy, Use the Erase White Paper filter on the image you posted on top (with the white background). It should make all the white transparent. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
AmpedAndy Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 Ok, got there after a couple tries, thanks. Bonus question: Now, can you think of a really quick way to fill in the negative space with a contrasting color? Quote iMac 21.5" Mid 2011 2.5 GHz i5
toltec Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Remove the white, then use a Threshold adjustment. Photo or Designer, your choice. Then put a colour layer behind it. What do you mean by negative space ? Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

I don't know about quick, you will have to fill them with paint. If the graphic (formerly white bits) is transparent, you can paint the colour on a layer behind, so you don't have to be too accurate as the graphic will act like a stencil. As long as you don't go outside into the background. That only took a couple of minutes, although it is perhaps a bit too rough. Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
