How do I activate my trial version of affinity designer and also

if I buy affinity designer for my macbook but may change platform in about 3 months time - can I cancel using it on mac and get a windows version

Welcome to the forums

 

Unfortunately you would have to purchase a separate licence from the Affinity Store to use the app on Windows. There is no way to activate the trial you will need to uninstall it and download the full version of the app from the Purchases tab of the Mac App Store

Trial lasts for 10 days, and it's not subscription/cloud based, so noone can tell, when You installed software better than You

Yes, unless you delete it yourself. They are just document files stored in whatever format you used when you saved them, in whatever location(s) you used when you did that.

 

To anticipate your next question, the retail version can open files saved in the trial version.
