I can give a gradient to a stroke alright, but controlling the gradient on that stroke is more elusive. If I use the gradient tool (G) I end up changing the FILL gradient, not the stroke gradient.

Can someone clarify the right way to control gradient on a stroke, please?

Thank you!

Hey Vector Cat,

I think if I'm understanding correctly, the following should help,

If you have the element the stroke is on selected using either of the two arrows on the menu,

then select the gradient tool, under context in the sub menu you can change that to stroke.

The controls would be used the same way

The Gradient Tool changes the Colour tab so that it affects just the gradient's selected node. That can be confusing if you don't know what's going on, because you can no longer use it to switch between fill and line.

ah..most clear..why that change? does the Context dropdown replace it?

The Colour tab changes because in this gradient mode, it is not changing the colour of either stroke nor fill. It is changing the colour at whichever gradient node the Gradient Tool has selected.
