Custom/alternative grids

I think it'd be great to be able to define custom global and/or per-document grids.

I was recently in Inkscape, and being able to have custom grid increments/colors/types is a pretty nice feature.

Thinking these might be some nice grid settings (global and/or per-document):

- X&Y coord. minor grid-line increments (also choose units in px, pt, in, etc.) 

- X&Y coord. major grid-line increments (also choose units in px, pt, in, etc.) 

- minor grid-line color

- major grid-line color

- grid type (line, dot)

Hi jgray, this has been brought up and discussed a bit. It's listed in the roadmap, so they are looking into more options on this I think...

I creating custom column guides and placing in a layer with opacity tweaked way down.

 

Not ideal but OK for now.

I did the same thing for an isometric piece I did. Just created an iso grid for guides and put in on another layer and lowered the opacity. It actually worked out really well.

yep .. different measures of orthogonal grids would be fine .. also some 1:1 1:2 or 1:3 isometric grids would be perfect .. 3D simulating 2D could help to be super fast at build up huge graphics and designs
