Staff Sean P Posted August 26, 2016 Staff Share Posted August 26, 2016 Hi af-user,I've just tried myself with a couple of EPS files i've got and they're opening fine for me. Does it occur on both your machines listed in your sig? Would it be possible for you to attach a couple of the EPS files that are causing the crash please? Thanks. af-user
It was on the Lenovo Notebook, will update my W10 desktop now and report again. Edit: OK there it seems to be working OK. Will start the lenovo again. ... it wanted to send the crash report, but as I am not in the network of the configured proxy, it displays a dialog with an error message, that the report could not be sent, because the proxy hostname can not be resolved. But what is it asking for, that can be answered by the buttons "yes" or "no"? :) OK still crashing there. Example file "Icon 6.eps" from this one: http://www.freepik.com/free-vector/black-family-icons_713129.htm Some thoughts: Different is, that it is running Windows 7 the user has no local administrative permissions Installation needed a reeboot because it wanted to copy files that are in use (I did reboot right after the installation). So I think first thing I do is compare the both installation directories if there are different files, if for whatever reason there is a leftover from v1.5.0.11. Then I will try to do e deinstallation and reinstallation if you don't need a crash report again. af-user
OK I think I know what is happening. One difference is, that on the not woking one it is still installed to the path: c:\program files\Serif\Affinity Designer... while the working one is installed to: c:\program files\Affinity\Affinity Designer... When opening the eps-file it tries to load an icc-profile. Those seem to be missing on the one system, the whole folder is empty: c:\program files\Serif\Affinity Designer Public Beta\Resources\icc I remeber that I had onnce running the setup while affinity designer was still running under user-A, but the setup was stared by user-B (because user-a has no admin permissions). So either it has to correctly detect and copy the files after the reboot or it has to check ALL running processes if designer is still running and ask to close it before the setup can run. Mark Ingram
Is the broken a clean install or an upgrade of an existing installation? I wonder if a clean install is missing the ICC directory? The new default install path is C:\Program Files\Affinity\Designer...
af-user
It was an upgrade from 1.5.0.12, and the icc-profiles have been there. (I can still look into the past thanks to snapshots / file history) :) Mark Ingram 1 System Notebook Lenovo P50 CPU: AMD Ryzen 3900x CPU: Intel i7-6700HQ RAM: 64 GB RAM: 32 GB GPU: RTX 3080 TI GPU: NVIDIA Quadro M2000M 4 GB SSD: Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 500GB OS: Windows 11 Edu x64 OS: Windows 10 x64 TFT: 1 x Samsung C49RG94SSU TFT: 2 x Lenovo
Roberto1972
The black family file opens here without problems. I always did clean installs (uninstal old, install latest) on Win7. This beta .14 didn't ask for rebooting, by the way (think it only is required when .NET also is being installed). No accounts on Windows, by the way: just admin. Interesting is that e.g. keyboard shortcuts and recent files history remain unaffected by clean installs. Haven't looked into it yet but I hope those are stored in files rather than in the registry (convenient backing up preferences, workspaces, etc.). af-user
On a correct installation where all files (here icc-profiles) are ok, the file will open without problems. I had a broken installation, even if the installer said it weas OK. But I had upgraded since multiple versions, I don't know if I had a clean installation in between at all. But as I can see, that the icc-profiles have been in place before the last upgrade, it should be a problem in the current installer.
