Chris99 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 So, *years* later I see this is still not fixed. Do the developers even test this out on Windows boxes? Firstly, I have to change the default shortcuts for pageup and pagedown to use the pageup and pagedown buttons (without having to press Ctrl+). It's written on the keys, guys. At least I can change it to work properly, so that's something. Sticking with pageup and pagedown, holding the key down should auto-repeat the key. Allowing me to pageup and down my document in quick time. Like for every other app in existence that uses pages. Secondly, why can I not use the standard Windows double-click drag on text? Double-click a word, drag the mouse to highlight other words. How is this still broken? Your apps are fantastic the way they allow me to zoom in and out and drag stuff around the screen using the mouse and mousewheel, far better than most other apps I've used. But then you break basic stuff like pageup, pagedown and double-click-drag and leave them broken for years. 😭 Windows 10, 64bit, latest version, all up to date, blah blah HCl 1 Quote

Plus the fact that here on my Mac I cannot use the home key to go to the first page, the end key works on its own. But I have to add a Modifier to the home key in order to get to the first page. OK, so you have to change the shortcuts to suit yourself, that's not exactly a "bug"! You only have to do it once, and maybe other people want the shortcuts to be different anyway. Yes, it might be nice for Page Up and Down keys to auto-repeat, but if you need to go to a long distance in a large document, and don't want to press the same key a few times, you can jump to a particular page number in the box at the bottom of the thumbnails, or just click on the thumbnail. (Plenty of options!) A single click and drag positions the cursor and selects the text until you stop dragging. A single click, rather than double click, is easier and I prefer it that way: I have no idea what is supposed to be "broken"! (FWIW: A single click positions the cursor, a double click selects a word, three clicks the line, four the paragraph and five clicks selects all!) IMHO, There's nothing "broken", nothing to be "fixed" and there are no "bugs", just a matter of personal preferences! Gosh, I had no idea Affinity had designed their products just so you could spend more time with your mouse 🤣. For most people, breaking the way operating systems do standard stuff is a bug. But thank you for explaining that double clicking a word selects the word. You may be interested to know that doing that in any other app allows the user to then select the next word simply by dragging the mouse to the right, and then every other word after that by continuing the drag. Imagine the convenience! Why would you object to Serif/Canva fixing their product to operate in a standard way so other people may use it more efficiently? Quote

Yeah, Home and End can be variable depending on context but you'd at least expect them to work consistently. On a line I'd expect Home to go to the start and End go to the end of the line, but then Mac has always treated those keys less consistently than Windows. So many times on a Mac I've pressed Shift+End and been baffled as to why it didn't highlight to the end of the line 😁. But for going to the end of the document I'd expect to use Ctrl+Home/End. Same as in Word, basically. Anyhoo I'm not here to argue Win vs Mac. A plague on all their houses 🤣 Quote

FWIW: A double click selects the word (you can also select more words), you can then drag the selected word(s) and move them, so you're quite likely to move, instead of just highlighting, the word(s) if doing it as you describe.
