Hi! Here is a question regarding Affinity Publisher. I am doing layout for two member magazines and have been struggling with an annoying problem for some time that I have not found an answer to. What I have discovered now is that if I put an image in a text box and make the text float outside using the Text Wrap function, the text becomes pixelated if I edit the image through Photo persona. This is only visible when I export it as a PDF. If I put an image outside the text box and edit it in Photo persona, this error does not occur, then the text is vectorized if you scroll into the PDF. In the case where the text becomes pixelated, removing the image does not help. Then the text remains pixelated, just as if the editing introduced pixels instead of vector paths as formatting in the text box. I am attaching PDFs where you can scroll into the text. It is extremely annoying when this happens and means that you do not dare to edit images that are in the text. If you have an answer to a solution, I would be very grateful :) Best regards Pär Svensson

@Pär Svensson Can you provide an Affinity Publisher file that results in pixelated text when exported to PDF? Provide the file with the image in the state it is in before editing the image. The text and image are getting merged/rasterized — seeing the Publisher file may help in identifying the issue.

What are you doing to the image when you edit it?

Hi @Pär Svensson and welcome to the forums,

I'm not seeing any issues here on Windows or Mac... The text-wrapped text is exporting correctly even when an Adjustment is applied to the text-wrapped image. The only time the text should be pixelated is when using the PDF (flatten) preset...

I've included a sample file and the exported PDFs but as @Brian_J requested, it would be helpful if you could upload your Publisher document so we can see why this is happening for you...

The text-wrapped image on both pages has a Brightness & Contrast Adjustment applied. Page 1 has been exported from the Publisher Persona and Page 2 from the Photo Persona...

Hi @Pär Svensson,

The text is pixelated because you have your White Balance Adjustment layer sitting on its own above the text layers.

If you nest it inside your image layer along with the Exposure and Brightness & Contrast Adjustment Layers, since you only want the White Balance Adjustment to affect the image and not the text then you should find the text exports without pixelating...

Then it was my lack of knowledge that was the explanation, so no bug should be blamed for this. I have now dragged the adjustment layer into the image layer and then exported - and now all the text is vectorized! Thanks! I am very grateful for your help and for this furum. After this, I need to dive deep into the world of layers...

At my beginnings with Affinity Publisher, I discovered how important they are. In case of unexpected behaviour, it's generally one of the first places I look inside, so I always keep their panel accessible.

Beside the official help pages, I also found this cheat sheet useful:

Affinity Suite 2.5 – Monterey 12.7.5 – MacBookPro 14" 2021 M1 Pro 16Go/1To

I apologise for any approximations in my English. It is not my mother tongue.
