I was working on an astrophotography stack when I came across this bug. If I run an external plugin before saving my document, Photo will crash repeatedly. As soon as I do save it, the plugin works fine. I tested this on retail 2.5.7 release and this isn't present, so this is a regression introduced in 2.6.

Here I show that the plugin works on a saved document, then I create a new identical document without saving, and it crashes.

The issue "Plugins instantly crash the app if the document hasn't been saved" (REF: AF-5507) has been fixed by the developers in the latest beta build (2.6.0.3058). The fix is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us.
