Zdepthcharge Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Hi. I have a PDF form that I am trying to fill out. To preserve my sanity, I have placed all of the layers under a blank layer (titled THE FORM) and locked the blank layer. I have also locked on the individual layers of the form under it. I then create a new, blank layer that is NOT under THE FORM. With this new blank layer selected, I use the text tool to write my name. My name is placed under THE FORM, at the bottom of the layers of the original PDF. This is frustrating to say the least. The expected behavior is that anything I add will be under or at the same level as the blank layer and that locked THE FORM layer and the locked layers beneath it will not be touched. I don't typically work with PDFs so it is entirely possible that I am doing or not doing something simple and basic. Thank in advance. Quote

Unfortunately this is not how it works in Affinity. layer locking only protects against moving layers by move tool / transform panel. It does not protect the layers against any other edits, like brush painting, text edits, adding or removing child layers. Even moving by „arrange layer“ are still possible. There are numerous feedback posts requesting advanced lock to protect against any edits, not only movement Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. Zdepthcharge Posted January 9 Author Posted January 9 >Unfortunately this is not how it works in Affinity. Thanks for the answer. I get it now, however, why do the text objects I'm adding, get added in a completely different layer than the layer I have selected? Quote
Komatös Posted January 9 Posted January 9 1 hour ago, Zdepthcharge said: why do the text objects I'm adding, get added in a completely different layer Text layers, whether frame text tool or artistic text tool, always have their own layer. This also applies to the shape tools. It is therefore not necessary to create layers beforehand. This is due to the non-destructive concept of the Affinity programmes. Please show us the document structure, so we can see it visually. We would need to see the Layers panel, so we can see the layout and the kind of layers you're describing. Also, it is important to know what is selected in the Layers panel at each step, and the status of the "Edit all layers" icon in the Layers panel.
