Affinity-Inspiration Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Most RAW files have a jpg embedded so they can be displayed on cameras and software as thumbnail. Most show up as raw+jpg in lists. Is it possible to extract that jpg file? Quote iPad Mini 6. 256GB. My GoTo design platform. M2 Mac Mini. 24GB. LG 4K Monitor. + Samsung Monitor 2. David in Яuislip Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Different raw formats have various types & nos of embedded thumbnails, this command will extract them all exiftool -a -b -W %d%f_%t%-c.%s -preview:all filename.ext eg NEFs hold ThumbnailTIFF, JpgFromRaw and PreviewImage. Once you know what you need you can change the command to say exiftool -a -b -W %d%f_%t%-c.%s -preview:JpgFromRaw filename.ext NotMyFault and Affinity-Inspiration 1 1 Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10

The other problem I have is splitting a raw+jpg file that’s stored in the camera and iPhone as a raw+jpg, but when you save it or export it etc it only gives you the jpg. I’ve no idea where the raw file goes. Or perhaps I’m misunderstanding these save settings entirely. However… Lightroom (hush my mouth!) can save both the raw and the jpg. It seems to know how to split them. Quote iPad Mini 6. 256GB. My GoTo design platform. M2 Mac Mini. 24GB. LG 4K Monitor. + Samsung Monitor 2. Windows 10 Toshiba. Windows 11 Parallels on Mac. What are you using to open those files? Is it the Apple Photos app or something else? In Apple Photos there should be an option to export the unmodified original. Does that export only a JPG? Does that export only a JPG? Amazing. I never knew that. After all this time. It exports the raw as a dng, with todays date on it, and the jpg with the date the photo was taken. Thank you for pointing that out. That’s a lifesaver. A real eye opener. thanks Robert R C-R 1 Quote iPad Mini 6. 256GB. My GoTo design platform. M2 Mac Mini. 24GB. LG 4K Monitor. + Samsung Monitor 2.
