Character Styles are not recognised beyond Page One in Publisher when using First or Last on Page for Running Headers...

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new Facing (or Ambidextrous) Page Publisher document using the default Master
  2. Add a Running Header to the Master page(s)
  3. Apply a Character Style to the Running Header(s) on the Master Page
  4. With the Running Header selected choose First or Last on Page from the Use dropdown in the Fields panel
  5. Add Linked text frames to the Master pages
  6. Add sufficient text to the first Publication page so there is text overflow
  7. Shift-click the text-overflow icon on Page 1 to create additional spreads
  8. Select several words from a paragraph on Page 1 and apply the Character Style used in Step 3 to the selected text
  9. The selected text is correctly applied as the Running Header on Page 1
  10. Select several words from a paragraph on the following pages and apply the Character Style used in Step 3 to the selected text
  11. The selected text using the Character Style applied in Step 3 is not recognised as the Running Header

I looked at this only because Anto reported a problem a few days ago and I couldn't duplicate it so perhaps I missed something.

I still can't duplicate the problem, could you share or send me a test file?

Here's the messy test file I created in 2.5.7 and all seems normal with it when opened in 2.6 beta 1950. I put the RH variables in master frames on the master and did not edit them on the document page. There are first on page ones at the top and last on page ones at the bottom, for both paragraph and character styles. I tried putting the styled text in master frames and document page frames (spread 2-3). I then tried linking master frames on spreads 4-5 and 6-7. But it all worked as expected but perhaps I'm doing something differently than you.

It seems to depend where the paragraph breaks fall across pages which is likely why you don't see the issue with your test file... I'm pretty sure I've seen this issue in a previous retail version but it seems to be working in 2.5.7...

Have a play with the attached version of your test file selecting text from different paragraphs and applying the Emphasis Character Style, it works on Page 1 but not on subsequent pages depending on the text selected...

On Page 2 select the text Nulla vestibulum eleifend nulla at the start of the first full paragraph and apply the Emphasis Character Style and it's applied as the First on Page running header, undo and then select the words Nulla quis nibh at the start of the next paragraph and the running header isn't applied.

Select any other text on any page and apply the Emphasis Character Style and it's not applied as the First or Last on Page running header...
