CaroleA Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Maybe it does not exist, and if that is the case, just confirm that to me. I come from PaintShop Pro, where one can crop based on various settings: snap crop rectangle to "merged opaque": will crop the image to the size of the combined non-transparent sections snap crop rectangle to "current selection": will crop the image to the size of the selection, while removing everything that is not selected snap crop rectangle to "layer opaque": will crop the image to the size of the non-transparent sections of the active layer I could not find those "options" in Affinity Photo. Are they somewhere I didn't look or do they exist with different words or don't exist at all? Quote
Brian_J Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 The crop area doesn’t snap to objects/content, so your first and third bullet points aren’t possible. I used to use Photoshop, where the crop snaps to objects… I miss that functionality in Affinity. A crop can be created from a pixel selection and the crop area snaps to page edges, margins, guides, and grids. If I make a circle selection (or a selection around a specific subject) with a single layer, how do I crop to that selection? (the second option in my list) Quote

When I tested this just now, it was only cropped to the smallest rectangle that the 'marching ants' selection encloses. CaroleA Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 It does crop to the size of the selection but will not remove what is not selected. So it does half of what I was hoping. Thank you. Quote
PaulEC Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 However you use the Crop Tool, setting it manually or by making a selection, you always have to accept the crop by clicking on "Apply" or by hitting the Return key!
