Affinity Photo 2 develop persona - develops RAW images automatically on its own/not opening files properly

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I wanted to edit my RAW files in the develop persona of Affinity Photo 2. At some point (no matter what file I am working on) it just develops the RAW file by itself, withoug giving any develop command. I cannot undo this development, so I have to start all over again.

Also I noticed, that from time to time, when I am opening a RAW file, it just shows a black screen in the develop persona where the picture is supposed to be - if I am developing that picute I can see it again, but not in the develop persona.

Is anybody experiencing the same issue? Or can help how I can prevent that behaviour?

Ipad pro (3rd generation)

iPadOS 18.0

That description suggests that while you think you're working with a RAW image, what Photo is operating on is a JPG or other non-RAW file.

Where is your RAW file stored?

How are you getting it into Photo?

Hi Walt,

It is stored in the cloud (onedrive). It sepcifically says RAW on the left hand top of the persona.

I am getting it into photo, by Open - Import Document - select cloud storage (onedrive) and then import it.

Thanks.

In that case, it would be useful to see a screenshot immediately after opening the file. And if you can, a screen recording showing it automatically Developing.

Also, you should have a choice in Photo 2 of developing to a Pixel layer or to a RAW layer (embedded or linked). If you choose RAW then you can always return to the Develop Persona with the settings you were using unchanged.

2. Video of self-developping

Can you change your Photo Settings and enable Show Touches? It will be in the General section.

Then if you could record that video again, we'd have more information.

Interesting.

In that one, something happens at 0:24 seconds in, but I can't see what's happening.

I'm out of ideas, I'm afraid. I hope another user or Serif staff will be able to help.

You can always enter the develop persona again. If you have chosen a linked or embedded RAW as development target, you can just continue at the point where you where, no steps are lost. You don’t need to start over.

i had other occasion of „phantom UI clicks“ in the past, caused by protective hulls or holding the iPad hand-held and bending it. Could this be the case?

Personally I don’t have seen this, but if memory serves me well there are older reports.

It may help to reboot iPad.

Hi @Affinity.fan,

Are you using a Pencil to make edits while in the Develop Persona?  As the only way i've been able to replicate this is by double tapping on the side of the pencil.  As a quick test you could go into Settings for Affinity and on the Pencil section disable the double tap and then see if this happens again.
