It would be really handy if text could be added to the buttons, as well as the symbols.

Perhaps also a small row of letters used in conjunction just below.

J A G P

What would J A G P mean? And how would they be "used in conjunction"?

They are just examples, used for example with Cmd+J

So if Cmd is active and J is pressed, it duplicates the selected object, as in the desktop version.

Thanks. But I think having the letters would be confusing, and there might be many possibilities for each state of the controller, as many different functions might use Cmd. Having the names (Cmd, etc.) might be useful, though.

Even if it weren’t potentially confusing, there would be the complication of having to make it dynamic so that it could remain in sync with any shortcut customizations.

Yes, you’re right of course. I was just musing. The names would be useful though as you say.

There’s no reason to throw good money after bad. The entire interface in Affinity for iPadOS should be rethought and redeveloped to be a true and dynamic tablet interface for the modern age. The command controller is a clumsy hack devised by a non-gui designer. Let’s hope Canva has imposed a good gui specialist on the former Serif team to help with this and further improvements.

Serif, have you done something foolish and recruited the usability specialist you advertised for this summer... internally? If so, let your customers know. Be transparent. I see no evidence that a properly trained UX professional is involved in Affinity - on the contrary - and if you continue your work without usability expertise, it is an insult to all your customers.
